Compensation: Pay determined by skills and experience in relation to the function of the role
Job Summary: We are seeking enthusiastic and hardworking asphalt crew members to join our growing team. Our Screed Operator is responsible for ensuring smooth, level, and properly compacted surface with the appropriate grade/fall. Our Roller Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient distribution and compaction of cooling asphalt to appropriately achieve the desired a smooth, finished surface. Our Laborer/Lute is responsible for assisting the team with shoveling / raking / smoothing / finishing, site prep & cleanup, and traffic control. All asphalt crew members are responsible for working within a crew on various construction projects throughout greater Cincinnati-Dayton marketplace and expected to perform the job duties in a safe and professional manner. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the paving industry and operator experience, but training is provided. Must have reliable transportation to various job sites in the area. asphalt crew members will be responsible to get to various job sites throughout the area and must be willing to work on a crew assisting in construction actives.
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Contribute to the team for all asphalt paving and related work
- SCREED: be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the screed
- SCREED: achieve a smooth, level, and properly compacted asphalt surface
- SCREED: properly adjust controls for grade and density
- SCREED: understand asphalt mix characteristics & ensure mat consistency
- SCREED: operate and maintain equipment as per specifications and as intended
- ROLLER: be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt roller
- ROLLER: achieve ideal asphalt compaction
- ROLLER: maintain roller pattern once established unless it needs modified to achieve specified densities
- ROLLER: operate equipment as per specifications and as intended
- ROLLER: fill water tank / check and adjust oil levels
- LABORER/LUTE: shovel asphalt and other materials
- LABORER/LUTE: raking asphalt and aggregates
- LABORER/LUTE: assist with loading and unloading of job site materials
- LABORER/LUTE: erect and remove delineating devices such as barrels and cones
- LABORER/LUTE: optimal traffic control in and around work zones (flagging) crafting a safe environment for traffic and onsite workers
- Handling of hot liquid asphalt and various materials
- Compact material with small hand rollers and vibratory plates
- Operate various machines and equipment as per specifications
- Seal end joints
- Preparing the construction site and installation of pavement surfaces
- Remove old asphalt, concrete and other materials using a jackhammer or cut-off saw
- Maintain neat and clean job site
- Ensure compliance to customer requirements and completed activities
- Inspect machines, equipment and assist with everyday maintenance
- Inspect and operate hand tools for various activities
- Maintain safety of company equipment/vehicles and ensured optimal utilization
- Attend and participate in job specific safety / huddle meetings as needed
- Observe and promote safety compliance
Required Skills, Qualifications, and Work Environment:
- Reliable transportation to various job sites in the area
- Ability to follow instruction
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with crew, leadership and clients
- Comprehensive understanding of safety procedures and policies
- Must be able to meet physical demands of the position; ability to lift up to 75 pounds, walking across uneven terrain, standing/working on feet for long periods
- Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
- Frequent exposure to loud noise
- Excellent vision or the use of prescription lenses
- Valid Driver’s license
- Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE), as required
Desired Skills & Qualifications (but not required):
- Previous construction experience and knowledge of asphalt paving
- SCREED: Comprehensive knowledge of operations necessary to ensure proper material flow, depth, fall, and a smooth, even surface
- SCREED: Ability to calculate material needs and ensure proper yield
- SCREED: Experience maintaining paver/screed
- ROLLER: Minimum five years of experience
- ROLLER: Comprehensive knowledge of roller patterns
- ROLLER: Comprehensive knowledge of densities and temperatures
- ROLLER: Experience maintaining roller equipment
- LABORER/LUTE: Experience in operating small equipment and hand tools
- Evidence of working successfully with a team
- High school or equivalent education
- OSHA 10 Hour Certification
