Job Summary

Pre-Operative Registered Nurse (RN) – Ambulatory Surgery Center

Position Summary

The Pre-Operative Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and compassionate nursing care to patients undergoing outpatient surgical procedures. The Pre-Op RN performs patient assessments, prepares patients for surgery, ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and collaborates closely with physicians, anesthesia providers, and surgical staff to promote optimal patient outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive pre-operative nursing assessments, including review of medical history, medications, allergies, laboratory results, and diagnostic testing.
Verify patient identity, surgical procedure, informed consent, and completion of required documentation.
Assess patient readiness for surgery and identify any concerns requiring physician or anesthesia review.
Establish and maintain intravenous access as ordered.
Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and facility policies.
Educate patients and family members regarding surgical procedures, anesthesia, post-operative expectations, and discharge instructions.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and clinical staff to coordinate patient care and surgical flow.
Monitor patients for changes in condition and promptly communicate findings to the appropriate provider.
Ensure compliance with infection control, patient safety, and regulatory standards, including AAAHC, CMS, OSHA, and state requirements.
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation within the electronic medical record.
Assist with patient transport and positioning as needed.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and ongoing education programs.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the Ambulatory Surgery Center.

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Jersey.
Current BLS certification required.
ACLS certification required or obtained within 3 months of employment.
Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience required; ambulatory surgery, perioperative, PACU, ICU, ER, or medical-surgical experience preferred.
Strong assessment, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift patients and equipment as necessary.
Ability to perform repetitive movements and assist with patient transfers.
Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.

Work Environment

This position is based in an ambulatory surgery center and requires close collaboration with physicians, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and administrative personnel. The Pre-Operative RN is expected to maintain a professional demeanor and provide exceptional patient-centered care at all times.

Pay: $43.73 - $52.66 per hour
