Full Job Description

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

PATIENT BILLING
Resubmit claims for physician and facility charges, either on paper or by electronic means. Reviews electronic billing reports for rejections and denials; resubmit denials in a timely manner.
Assists patients with billing questions by phone or in person; refers unresolved problems to Revenue Manager.
Prepares secondary insurance billing after receiving payment from primary carrier.
CASH APPLICATION
Applies insurance and patient payments to the appropriate accounts.
Makes adjustments as appropriate on each account for contractual writeoffs, finance charge writeoffs, etc.
Processes refunds as appropriate for overpayments on accounts.
Notify patients of NSF checks and arrange a method of repayment.
Reviews all payments for accuracy and follows up on incorrect payments with insurance companies, and makes notations in patient's account. Resolves denials received by mail from insurance payers.
PERFORM COLLECTION PROCEDURES
Produces statements of balance due for patients. Calls patients for nonpayment after 3 statements have been sent. Determines accounts to be sent to outside collection agency.
Maintains a working relationship with outside collection agencies, selects accounts to refer to agency, reviews monthly reports from agency to monitor progress of collection efforts.
Checks status of unpaid insurance claims in a timely manner.
Reviews all notifications of insurance coverage denials and incorrect payments and follows up with patient or insurance company with request for payment.
MISCELLANEOUS
Provide backup for other areas of the business office as needed.
Acts as backup for answering phones and registering patients.
Perform special projects as requested.
