Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist reports directly to the Director of Human Resources.
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for supporting the consistent application of sound human resources practices across a fast-paced, multi-state behavioral health organization. This position requires a highly adaptable, self-directed HR professional who can pivot rapidly as business, employee, compliance, and operational needs change.
The HR Generalist will provide hands-on support in employee relations, HRIS administration, payroll and timekeeping, recruitment, onboarding, leave administration, performance management, policy administration, compliance, investigations, and employee records. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently with minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment, maintaining confidentiality, and knowing when matters require escalation to Human Resources leadership.
Responsibilities

Serve as a day-to-day HR resource for employees and managers regarding workplace policies, procedures, employee relations, and general HR questions.

Support employee relations matters, including attendance, performance concerns, corrective action, workplace complaints, and policy violations.

Conduct or assist with workplace investigations, including gathering statements, reviewing documentation, identifying inconsistencies, preparing summaries, and maintaining confidential records.

Partner with managers on coaching, performance improvement plans, corrective action, and employee documentation.

Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local labor and employment laws across multiple jurisdictions.

Maintain working knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, PWFA, USERRA, workers' compensation, wage-and-hour requirements, paid leave, final-pay requirements, employee classification, and recordkeeping obligations.

Monitor changes in employment law and assist with updates to policies, procedures, forms, and HR practices.

Support HR requirements within behavioral health, mental health, substance use disorder treatment, residential, outpatient, and other regulated healthcare environments.

Assist with credentialing, background screening, required training, licensing documentation, personnel-file requirements, and workforce compliance.

Perform day-to-day HRIS administration and maintain accurate employee records.

Use Paycom and Paychex for HR, payroll, timekeeping, reporting, employee changes, and related processes.

Process new hires, terminations, transfers, compensation changes, position changes, supervisor changes, and employee status updates.

Review payroll and timekeeping information for accuracy and assist with resolving discrepancies.

Support recruiting, job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, offers, and onboarding as needed.

Ensure completion of required pre-employment and new-hire documentation, including Form I-9 requirements.

Assist with administration and tracking of FMLA, state leave, company leave, and workplace accommodation processes.

Maintain confidential leave, accommodation, corrective action, investigation, and employee records.

Support unemployment claims, workers' compensation administration, benefits questions, audits, and regulatory documentation requests.

Generate HR reports and maintain HR trackers, compliance logs, and employee documentation.

Rapidly shift between priorities and urgent HR needs while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, responsiveness, and follow-through.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

Human Resources experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, mental health, residential treatment, healthcare, or another highly regulated environment.

Experience supporting multiple facilities, business entities, EINs, or operating locations.

Experience conducting workplace investigations and supporting corrective action and performance management.

Experience with payroll, timekeeping, leave administration, compliance audits, and multi-state policy administration.

SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred but not required.

Work Environment
This position operates onsite for 5 days in a dynamic behavioral healthcare environment, however seated in a business off not in the clinical setting. Where priorities may change throughout the day. The HR Generalist must be comfortable transitioning quickly between employee relations matters, investigations, recruiting, payroll and timekeeping issues, compliance questions, onboarding, leave administration, documentation, and other HR responsibilities. Occasional travel between company locations may be required.

Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience.
- Experience supporting employees across multiple states or jurisdictions.

Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local labor and employment laws

Hands-on proficiency with Paycom.

Hands-on proficiency with Paychex.

Proficiency with Google Workspace, including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive, Google Calendar, and Google Meet.

Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Experience with HRIS, payroll, timekeeping, ATS, and electronic employee-record systems.

Strong employee relations, documentation, investigation, and compliance skills.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and without continuous direction or management.
