CYVMedia is a video marketing and client acquisition agency serving home service businesses across San Diego and beyond HVAC, electrical, roofing, plumbing, gutters, solar, ADU construction, pool repair, and more.
We're looking for a Videographer/Director to own production days end to end: not just operating a camera, but directing talent, adapting scripts on the fly, and representing CYVMedia's creative standard directly with clients on site.
This role goes beyond traditional videography. You'll take briefs and scripts built by our content team and bring them to life making real-time creative and directorial calls on location, coaching clients and technicians in front of the camera, and ensuring what we capture actually delivers on the brief. You'll also be a visible, trusted point of contact for clients on shoot days.
Reports To
Casey (Founder) and Mahlia (Client Success / Ops Lead).
Current Client Roster
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Pre-Production & Creative Direction
- Review scripts and creative briefs (developed by CYVMedia's content/strategy team) ahead of each shoot and translate them into a shot list and directorial plan.
- Scout or confirm shoot locations and logistics; flag issues (permits, access, lighting conditions) before shoot day.
- Adapt scripted lines on site so they sound natural coming from the client/talent, without losing the brief's core message — flag any major deviations back to the content team.
- Plan coverage (interviews, b-roll, testimonials, technician POV) that matches the intended edit and platform.
2. On-Set Videography & Direction
- Operate camera, lighting, and audio equipment to a professional standard across all shoot types.
- Direct talent on site — coach delivery, pacing, and framing; decide when a take is usable.
- Arrive 15 minutes early to all scheduled shoots; plan travel routes with buffer for delays.
- Maintain and check all gear before every shoot; resolve equipment issues proactively.
- Upload footage to frame.io within 2 hours of each shoot, organized per CYVMedia's file protocols.
3. Client-Facing Responsibilities
- Serve as the face of CYVMedia on shoot days — build trust and rapport with client staff, ownership, and technicians.
- Run pre-shoot logistics conversations with clients (availability, location, assets, testimonials on hand).
- Handle in-the-moment client questions or pushback on set without needing to escalate.
- Loop in Mahlia or Casey proactively on anything client-facing that falls outside shoot-day logistics
4. Post-Production Handoff & Coordination
- Flag standout soundbites, key moments, and usable alt takes for editors (Laura/Brian) before handoff.
- Keep Notion project cards fully and accurately updated...notes, revisions, dates, shoot status.
- Submit End of Day (EOD) forms after every shoot day.
- Proactively notify the team within 24 business hours if any deliverable is at risk of missing deadline.
SMART Expectations
- Attend up to 20 shoots per month.
- Arrive 15 minutes early to 100% of scheduled shoots and meetings.
- Upload footage to the drive within 2 hours of shoot completion, fully organized.
- Ensure 100% of Notion project cards are accurately and thoroughly maintained.
- Ensure 100% of client-facing shoot-day interactions are handled professionally, escalating only what's outside shoot-day scope.
Internal Meeting Cadence
- Weekly Team Meeting
- Weekly 1:1 with Casey and/or Mahlia
- Monthly Creative Meeting
- Daily EOD form
Ideal Candidate Traits
- Confident directing people who've never been on camera before
- Strong technical foundation: camera operation, lighting, audio, composition.
- Comfortable being the primary client contact on site, not just the crew.
- Organized and detail-oriented — keeps files, shoots, and Notion cards in check without reminders.
- Growth-minded and eager to take on more creative ownership over time.
- Based in or near San Diego County; comfortable with occasional travel for shoots.
- Tech-savvy and comfortable in a fast-moving, digital-first environment.
Growth Path
As CYVMedia scales, this role is positioned to grow into a Creative Director position — overseeing additional videographers, setting creative direction across the client roster, and playing a larger role in shaping CYVMedia's production standards.
