Full Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Controller serves as the financial backbone of the organization, owning the accounting function from day-to-day operations through strategic financial reporting. This role partners directly with executive leadership to translate financial data into actionable insight, ensure the integrity of the company’s books, and build a high-performing accounting team. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a fast-paced environment. Candidates with construction experience a plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting & Analysis

Prepare and present accurate, timely financial statements and management reports to the executive team and board
Analyze financial results, identify trends, and provide variance analysis with clear, actionable commentary
Establish and maintain financial reporting standards, benchmarks, and KPIs to support business performance monitoring

Accounting Operations

Own and oversee all accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, and payroll
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines
Maintain and continuously improve internal controls over revenue, expenditures, and financial reporting
Coordinate tax planning and preparation with external accountants; ensure compliance with all applicable regulations

Cash & Asset Management

Manage organizational cash flow, forecasting, and liquidity planning to support operational and growth needs
Monitor and report on the performance of invested assets and company benefit plan portfolios
Oversee all company benefit plans and manage vendor relationships

Strategic Partnership

Partner with department heads to develop budgets, model scenarios, and assess the financial impact of strategic decisions
Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, proactively surfacing risks and opportunities based on financial data
Lead the development and management of the annual operating budget and multi-year financial forecasts

Team Leadership

Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing accounting team; foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular reviews, and provide coaching and professional development support

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
10+ years of progressive Construction accounting experience, with a demonstrated track record of increasing responsibility
3+ years in a leadership or management role overseeing an accounting team
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
Understanding of product manufacturing and inventory management.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
Exceptional analytical, communication, and organizational skills
High degree of integrity and the ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion

Preferred

CPA license and/or MBA
Experience with various ERP implementations and enterprise accounting platforms
Prior experience in Construction or a comparable operating environment
