The Internship Coordinator coordinates internship placement services and day-to-day internship program operations for undergraduate and graduate students, supporting students across the University’s academic colleges. Reporting to the Executive Director of Career Services, the position helps connect academic learning to practical experience by supporting student placements, maintaining employer contacts, processing internship documentation, and maintaining program records and data. The coordinator works within established Career Services plans, approved procedures, and University requirements, and refers program design, policy interpretation, employer partnership commitments, and final program decisions to the Executive Director of Career Services.
Internship Program Support and Campus Coordination
1. Support internship program activities established by the Executive Director of Career Services, including coordinating schedules, timelines, processes, and program communications.
2. Work with faculty, academic advisors, and campus partners to share internship information, gather program needs, and route referrals, questions, and requests to the appropriate contact.
Student Engagement and Placement Coordination
3. Serve as a point of contact for students seeking internships and provide information, resources, and guidance on search strategies, application preparation, and available Career Services support. Refer counseling, disability, academic, financial aid, and conduct matters to the responsible office.
4. Coordinate and facilitate internship placements by connecting students with available opportunities aligned with their stated career interests, academic backgrounds, and skills.
5. Support students through the placement process, coordinate scheduling and follow-up with employers, and escalate academic, legal, safety, compensation, discrimination, or performance concerns to the Executive Director of Career Services or appropriate University official.
Employer Outreach Support
6. Maintain employer contact records, post and circulate internship opportunities, and conduct approved outreach to employers to gather information about their internship needs.
7. Coordinate employer visits, information sessions, and internship-related events in support of established Career Services plans. Partnership strategy, formal commitments, incentives, and agreement execution remain with the Executive Director of Career Services.
Internship Documentation and Requirements Support
8. Communicate established internship requirements, including those related to academic credit, compensation, and workplace safety, to students and employers.
9. Collect and route internship agreements, forms, and required documentation for review and approval; maintain complete documentation of the approval process; and refer questions, exceptions, and compliance concerns to the Executive Director of Career Services or appropriate University office. The position does not interpret policy, determine eligibility outside approved criteria, approve agreements, or make regulatory, academic-credit, or risk determinations.
Records, Data, and Reporting
10. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student internship placements, agreements, participation, and outcomes in approved systems.
11. Compile and prepare recurring program data and standard reports to support program monitoring, grant reporting, and continuous improvement.
Program Operations and Feedback
12. Carry out the day-to-day operations of the internship program according to approved procedures and service standards.
13. Collect and summarize feedback from students and employers and provide the results to the Executive Director of Career Services, who determines program evaluation priorities, performance measures, and program improvements.
