Second Chapter Brewing, housed in the old library in downtown Ogallala, Nebraska, is a craft brewery known for its welcoming taproom, on-site brewing operations, and spacious outdoor deck just minutes from Lake McConaughy. Summary:
The Taproom Server / Shift Lead assists guests and provides exceptional customer service, hospitality, and sales support. Individuals in these positions will report to the owners or to the Taproom Manager. Servers and Shift Leads support the day-to-day operations of the taproom and are eligible for excellent pooled tips.
Job Duties (Taproom Server):
- Give top-notch taproom customer service, including serving, bartending, making retail sales, and responding to customer inquiries or feedback;
- Educate guests about Second Chapter Brewing and its menu of craft beer, wine, spirits, and snacks;
- Assist in inventory and stocking;
- Utilize a point of sale system to produce accurate and consistent records of sales and ensure proper handling of transactions (cash, card, etc.);
- Maintain a clean facility by washing dishes, cleaning the bar area, patio, and taproom when necessary (tables, chairs, windows, floors, bathrooms, etc.), handling trash, and assisting in basic grounds-keeping maintenance (sweeping steps, picking up litter, etc.);
- Provide event support;
- Assist in opening and closing facilities to a high standard of cleanliness; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Duties (Shift Lead):
In addition to the server duties listed above, the shift lead will be responsible for the following:
- Direct day-to-day workflow among scheduled staff;
- Serve as the primary point of contact between owners or manager and staff;
- Ensure that staff are following standard procedures and assist in onboarding new staff; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Arrangement:
- Positions are available immediately and will remain open until filled.
- Multiple part-time hourly and seasonal positions are available.
- The pay includes an hourly rate based on skills, experience, and availability, plus a share of pooled tips. While past results do not guarantee future performance, based on documented past tip averages, the combined hourly earnings are anticipated to be between $19.50-$25.00 (guaranteed minimum wage of $15).
- Benefits include employee discounts, paid sick leave, and flexible scheduling.
- This position can be combined with another part-time role in the office, brewery, or distribution/sales if desired and if skills match.
- Hours are flexible. However, evening and/or weekend availability is required. Summer taproom hours are 4-9 pm Tuesday-Thursday; 2-10 pm Friday; 12-10 pm Saturday; 2-7 pm Sunday. Hours are subject to change and special events may be scheduled outside of regular taproom hours.
Requirements:
- Willingness to learn new skills, innovate, and adapt to changes;
- Must have a friendly and outgoing personality;
- Must be able to follow all health and safety procedures, including best practices for responsible serving of alcohol;
- Must be at least 19 years of age, prefer 21+;
- Must be able to pass a Responsible Beverage Service Training Program exam;
- Ability to work on the weekends, evenings, and some holidays; and
- Physical capacity to stand or walk for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and to maneuver kegs with assistance.

- Relevant work experience in the restaurant and bar industry, retail, breweries and wineries, or similar hospitality-service sector;

- Motivation for sales and service;
- Technical agility and experience working with point of sale or other software tools and platforms;
- Excellent problem-solving capacity and attention to detail; and
- Energy and enthusiasm to help us grow.
