Position Summary
As a historic Black church rooted in the love of Jesus Christ, biblical teaching, social justice, and community transformation, we seek a passionate, Spirit-filled, and visionary Director of Teen Ministry to lead the spiritual formation of teenagers aged 13-17.
The Director will cultivate a Christ-centered ministry that nurtures teens’ faith, develops biblical literacy, encourages discipleship, and partners with parents to raise the next generation of Christian leaders. This individual will embrace the rich heritage of our church while creating engaging, age-appropriate opportunities for worship, learning, fellowship, mission, and service.
Primary Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive discipleship strategy for teens ages 13-17.
- Create/select biblical lessons that are engaging, age-appropriate, culturally relevant, and theologically sound.
- Encourage teens to develop a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ through prayer, worship, scripture, and service.
- Create meaningful opportunities for teens to participate in the worship life of the congregation.
Ministry Programming
- Plan and oversee Sunday teens’ ministry, Bible studies, Vacation Bible School, children's church, retreats, camps, and special events.
- Design seasonal programming that aligns with the church calendar and overall vision.
- Develop service projects and mission opportunities that cultivate compassion and community engagement.
- Work in collaboration with the Director of Teen Ministry to create a strategic recruitment plan that accounts for changing demographics within LHMBC and the broader Zone-15 community.
Volunteer Leadership
- Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and encourage volunteers who serve with teens.
- Ensure all volunteers complete required background checks and child safety training.
- Foster a culture of excellence, teamwork, hospitality, and spiritual growth among ministry leaders.
Family Partnership
- Build strong relationships with parents and caregivers.
- Equip families with devotional resources and practical tools for nurturing faith at home.
- Maintain regular communication regarding ministry events, children's milestones, and opportunities for involvement.
Administration
- Ensure all ministry activities comply with church child protection policies and best practices.
- Build and develop additional Youth Ministry staff as needed
- Maintain attendance records, registration information, and ministry databases.
- Develop and manage the children's ministry budget responsibly.
- Coordinate classroom space, curriculum, supplies, and equipment.
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with pastoral staff, church leadership, Christian Education, and other ministry departments.
- Participate in staff meetings, planning retreats, and church-wide initiatives.
- Support intergenerational ministry opportunities that strengthen the entire church family.
Qualifications
- A vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Commitment to the mission, values, and theological convictions of LHMBC
- Bachelor's degree and/or extensive experience in Christian Ministry, Christian Education, Theology, Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
- Experience leading children's ministry or Christian education.
- Demonstrated ability to connect with children and build meaningful relationships with families.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers.
- Ability to plan, organize, and execute multiple ministry events simultaneously.
- Proficiency with common technology platforms for communication and ministry administration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing curriculum or teaching biblical studies.
- Musical, creative arts, or teens’ worship leadership experience.
- Knowledge of child development and trauma-informed ministry practices.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to actively participate in teens’ activities.
- Availability for evenings, weekends, church services, retreats, and special events.
Compensation
