Full-Time = 40 Hours/Week

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, the CDS Supervisor - Acquisitions provides daily oversight and direction to CDS Acquisitions Assistants, coordinating workflow priorities, assigning work, and supporting acquisitions operations, including receiving, ordering, and material processing as needed. The position collaborates with Collection Development Services (CDS) and other departments to manage special projects, monitor workflow progress, and ensure efficient movement of materials. The CDS Supervisor - Acquisitions participates in collection development and maintenance activities, partners with branches and departments to maximize merchandising and promotional opportunities in physical and digital spaces and supports reader’s advisory and programming initiatives. The CDS Supervisor - Acquisitions analyzes circulation, demographic, and acquisitions workflow data to identify trends and recommend process improvements that enhance productivity and service delivery. In the absence of the Collection Development & Acquisitions Manager, the CDS Supervisor - Acquisitions may serve as the department’s person-in-charge.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required include:

Knowledge of principles, theories and concepts of library science, and collection development.
Knowledge of the library’s integrated automated library system as it pertains to collection development.
Ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills for handling special projects and complex department operations.
Skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with co-workers, customers, community leaders, vendors, union officers and/or representatives of other agencies.
Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision making to integrate organizational priorities, meet deadlines, and achieve objectives.
Ability to demonstrate proficient use of personal computer software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job, which may include (but not be limited to) email/calendar software, internet/intranet browsers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and various systems or software used by CCPL
Ability to apply advanced organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
Ability to accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files.
Ability to demonstrate superior verbal and written interpersonal skills and customer service skills.
Ability to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions, including the ability to successfully prioritize both emergency and non-emergency issues.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Complies with Cuyahoga County Public Library’s policies, rules, guidelines, procedures, requirements, standards, and practices applicable to the job, including (but not limited to) work scheduling and attendance, customer service, use of Library property, computer use, personal conduct, and confidentiality.
At the direction of the Collection Development & Acquisitions Manager. Coordinates with branches and other departments to maximize merchandising and promotional opportunities in both physical and digital spaces. Optimizes collection development opportunities to assist staff in reader’s advisory and book discussion programming.
Conducts data analysis using vendor tools as pertains to circulation and diversity, equity, and inclusion metrics as well as demographic data regarding communities served. Collects statistics on acquisitions workflow, suggests efficiencies to improve productivity.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of acquisitions and collection development practices and developments in the field by studying professional literature and attending related meetings, workshops and conferences.
Assists manager in setting departmental work objectives and is responsible for prioritizing workflow and expediting special projects, making assignments and adjustments as necessary.
Maintains a working knowledge of all relevant modules of the library’s integrated library system and the library’s various vendor websites.
Develops expertise in the ILS acquisitions module.
Coordinates the unboxing and receiving of toys.
Coordinates the ordering of toys by working directly with the Youth Literacy and Outreach Manager, Media Services, the Lead Processor and Cataloging Supervisor and Assistants.
Crafts and revises departmental procedures manual in coordination with other members of the department.
Tabulates and reports monthly statistics for purchase suggestions, unboxing, receiving, ordering and other workflow related tasks.
Supervises and directs operations of the Acquisitions team, including scheduling staff, assigning work priorities and tasks, training, evaluating staff performance and verifying payroll timecards, in consultation with supervisor.

Summary Minimum Education & Experience Required

Master's degree in Library Science.
At least two years of professional experience in public libraries as a Librarian.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Experience with library vendors and acquisitions preferred.

OTHER TESTING/LICENSES REQUIRED

A criminal background check is required, and pre-employment drug screens.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

No major sources of working conditions discomfort, i.e. standard work environment with possible minor inconveniences due to occasional noise, crowded working conditions, and/or minor heating, cooling or ventilation problems.
Work requires routine lifting of moderately heavy items, such as computer equipment or boxes (over 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds), pushing full carts, and/or standing for long periods of time and/or frequent stooping or bending.
Routine pushing of moderately heavy items, such as full carts and/or frequent stooping and bending.
Work involves near continuous use of computer terminal.
Work is subject to inflexible deadlines, production standards, and frequent interruptions.
Occasional hazards associated with use of sharp tools such as box cutters, knives, etc.
Ability to operate a Stacker to move pallets.
