Electrical Controls EngineerPosition Summary
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer to support the design, programming, commissioning, and startup of PLC-based automation systems. This role will be responsible for developing control systems for automated production equipment, integrating PLCs, robotics, HMIs, and material handling systems into complete manufacturing solutions.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell automation platforms and a passion for developing innovative automation solutions. Most work will be performed at our facility, with travel required for equipment installation, startup, commissioning, and customer support.
Key ResponsibilitiesControls Design & Programming
- Develop electrical design packages and schematics utilizing AutoCAD LT.
- Design, program, and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Logix PLC control systems.
- Develop and maintain HMI applications and operator interfaces.
- Create and maintain I/O lists and control system documentation.
- Work closely with mechanical and electrical design teams to define control requirements and system sequences of operation.
- Integrate PLCs, robots, HMIs, sensors, and material handling equipment into fully automated production systems.
System Testing & Validation
- Perform in-house testing, debugging, validation, and optimization of automation systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical controls, software, and communication networks.
- Modify and improve programs to ensure reliable system performance.
- Maintain and update electrical schematics throughout project execution.
Commissioning & Customer Support
- Perform startup, commissioning, and validation of completed systems at customer facilities.
- Provide technical support during installation and production launch activities.
- Train customer and company personnel on system operation, troubleshooting, and program maintenance.
- Support service activities and system upgrades as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- 3-5+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or machine building.
- Strong experience programming Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Logix PLCs.
- Experience with automated manufacturing or material handling systems.
- Ability to read, interpret, and modify electrical schematics and control drawings.
- Experience with system startup, troubleshooting, commissioning, and debugging.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a project team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FANUC robotics programming, integration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with industrial HMIs and operator interface development.
- AutoCAD LT experience.
- Experience with industrial communication networks and field devices.
- Previous experience working directly at customer manufacturing facilities.
- Understanding of machine safety and industrial electrical standards.
Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel approximately 25-30% for equipment installation, startup, commissioning, and customer support activities.
