The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) is searching to create an ELIGIBILITY LIST ONLY for positions within the Signal Department of the Rail Districts Power & Way Section. The position of Signal Maintainer 450 is responsible for the daily and seasonal electrical/electronic component maintenance of our signal equipment assets along the Blue, Green and Red Lines of our Rapid Transit System. We utilize high-voltage electricity from local utility suppliers to provide traction power for our Rapid Transit System. Detailed Description
Duties

Performs routine cleaning, inspection and maintenance of all rail signal equipment. Installs signal equipment and parts.
- Performs routine testing and repair of rail signal equipment.
- Routes trains through work areas.
- May be assigned to be employee in charge at supervisor discretion.
- Respond to trouble calls and emergencies, and records written log of all work activities.
- This position will promoted a safe and secure atmosphere, follow all safety and security rules and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Works overtime as necessitated by operational needs.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have completed technical high school courses or post-high school courses in electrical theory and/or basic electronics to enable testing and repairing of electronic rail signal equipment.
- Applicants must also have a valid Ohio driver's license with no more than four (4) points in the last three (3) years.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, climb, reach with hands and arms, handle or feel, see with normal visual acuity, talk, speak and hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift materials up to 50 lbs. The employee is regularly required to monitor a video display terminal.
Mental Demands: Reading, watching, studying, observing, focused listening. Concentrated attention to detail for prolonged periods of time. Auditing, inspecting, tabulating data, proofreading, analyzing and evaluating.
Examination Information: Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process will be notified of the exact time and place of the examination. The examination process will consist of three parts: a written examination, a performance assessment, and a record evaluation (for internal candidates only). Candidates must attain a minimum composite score of 70% on all parts of the process to move forward in the process.
Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for external candidates: Written Examination 30%, Performance Assessment 70%.
Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for internal candidates: Written Examination 30%, Performance Assessment 55%, Record Evaluation 15%.
Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria in order to gain the 15% weight. Records evaluation information includes a review of the following:

- 2 or more AWOL or absence control suspensions

3 or more active written reminders (regardless of the level)

5 or more misses (Regardless of whether they are active or not active)

4 or more active tardies

Drug or alcohol suspension

Driver License Policy suspension (CDL or Regular)
- Active Decision Making Leave (DML)
Additional Information: The performance of these duties may be required at any time of the day or night, any day and/or night of the week. The position is a bargaining unit position. The position is also safety sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Candidates are required to perform the duties of the position, which may include working with circuits carrying lethal voltages (480 volts AC and 600 volts DC).
