JOB
Job SummaryThe Firefighter/EMT performs activities required to protect life and property by engaging in firefighting,emergency aid, advanced life support, hazardous materials, and fire prevention assignments.Firefighter/EMTs will maintain equipment, apparatus, and facilities.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Job Responsibilities•Performs firefighting activities including driving fire apparatus and ambulance, climbingladders, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose, and performing firecombat, containment, and extinguishment tasks.•Performs emergency aid activities including administering basic or advanced life support (ALS)aid and providing other assistance as required.•Participates in fire drills, attends classes in firefighting, hazardous materials, and relatedsubjects.•Receives and relays fire calls and alarms. Operates two way radio and othercommunication equipment.•Participates in the inspection of buildings, hydrants, and other structures in fireprevention programs.•Maintains fire equipment, EMS equipment, apparatus, and facilities. Performs minorrepairs to departmental equipment.•Performs flow testing of hydrants.•Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment;cleans and washes walls and floors; cares for grounds around station; makes minorrepairs; washes, cleans, polishes, maintains and tests apparatus, and equipment.•Presents programs to the community on safety, medical, and fire prevention topics.•Maintains inventory of medical supplies and equipment.•Performs salvage operations, such as, throwing salvage covers, sweeping water, andremoving debris.•Performs other duties, as assigned.•Serves as a member of various employee committees as needed.The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work thatmay be performed. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Primary Work Location: Fire Station. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularlyworks in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts;in high, precarious places; is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborneparticles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the workenvironment is usually moderate, except during certain firefighting activities when the noise levels maybe loud.Employee may be exposed to Bloodborne Pathogens. Hepatitis B Vaccination is available.
