Position Introduction:

The Norman Firehouse Art Center (FAC) enriches our community by offering the highest quality visual arts education, experiences, and exhibitions.

History:

Since 1970, the Norman Firehouse Art Center, Inc., a non-profit organization, has served Norman and surrounding communities with visual art classes and gallery exhibitions of the highest quality. Our faculty provides instruction in ceramics, sculpture, painting and drawing, jewelry construction, fused and slumped glass and more, in well-equipped classrooms.

Job Description:

The Education Assistant will assist in outreach, accessibility and educational programs. As such, they will support the Firehouse’s mission by helping to deliver quality customer service and information about our organization. The successful applicant will be able to interface and network with the public and our faculty. They will also support the staff through administrative duties as assigned that pertain to the business of the FAC Gallery and Firehouse programs. This position will build experience for a career in museum education, non-profit management, and the art field.

Required Education and Experience:

Must be currently enrolled in the Fall 2026 Term as an undergraduate student in good standing at the University of Oklahoma.
Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
College Student or Bachelor’s degree or higher

Job Duties:

This position will be the first point of contact with most guests and students;
a professional demeanor and sense of hospitality is a must
Assist the Studio and Programs Manager with educational needs
Assist faculty in accessibility and educational programs as needed
Open and close the building, gallery, and gift shop
Process sales transactions accurately
Follow financial procedures to close out the day’s receipts and provide a report to staff
Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing art, record sales, and maintain inventory
Answer the phone and screen them for importance, send them to the correct person, record accurate messages when needed
A variety of clerical tasks including data entry, filing, document creation, and spreadsheet management.
Answer questions about classes offered
Perform light housekeeping duties:
- straightening and dusting the displays as
  needed
Speaking to the Firehouse’s programs accurately and answering questions from the public on upcoming events and programs.

Able to maintain good records of incoming and outgoing art

Professional appearance
Able to multi-task and handle busy retail periods
Community-minded and passionate about art

Schedule:

Schedule will be varied from operational hours to weekend events.
The agreed upon schedule will be as needed for educational programs.

Required Certifications and Licenses:

None

Department Preferences:

Previous experience working in the non-profit field is a plus.
Previous arts/education related experience is a plus.
Preferred candidates will seeking a degree in non-profit management, art, or education focused careers
