Position Summary
The Worship Leader provides spiritual, creative, and organizational leadership for the church's worship ministry. This person is responsible for planning and leading Christ-centered, biblically grounded worship that supports the mission and vision of the congregation. The Worship Leader equips and develops volunteers, fosters a culture of worship throughout the church, and collaborates with staff to create meaningful worship experiences that engage people of all ages.
Primary Responsibilities
Worship Planning and Leadership
- Plan and lead weekly worship services in collaboration with the pastors.
- Select songs, liturgy, and other worship elements that align with the sermon, liturgical and church calendar as well as work with the communion team and ushers.
- Lead congregational worship with musical excellence, authenticity, and spiritual sensitivity.
- Introduce new music thoughtfully while maintaining a balanced repertoire of familiar hymns and contemporary worship songs.
- Participate in special services, including Christmas Eve services, Holy Week, Easter, Ash Wednesday, weddings, funerals, and other church events as assigned.
Worship Ministry Development
- Recruit, train, mentor, and encourage paid/volunteer musicians, vocalists, liturgists, and worship team members.
- Build a healthy, welcoming, and spiritually nurturing worship team culture.
- Schedule volunteers and communicate expectations clearly.
- Help those with accessibility needs (vision, hearing) to be able to worship fully.
- Provide opportunities for spiritual growth among worship ministry participants.
- Coordinate with Spirit Winds director, Blackwelder Brass (OCU), OCU Choir Students, Choir Director, and Organist for worship services and special events.
Technical and Production Oversight
- Assist with worship technology including sound, projection, lighting, livestream, and presentation software and work with our A/V person
- Ensure all worship equipment is maintained and functioning properly, including worship elements such as communion elements.
- Recommend equipment upgrades and budget needs.
- Facilitate sanctuary decoration for special seasons and occasions.
Administration
- Manage the worship ministry budget responsibly.
- Maintain worship planning systems and song library.
- Coordinate copyright licensing and reporting (e.g., CCLI).
- Communicate effectively with church staff and volunteers.
- Coordinates with Business Manager on musician payments
Church Leadership
- Support the overall mission and vision of the church.
- Build positive relationships across all generations of the congregation.
- Participate in church events and ministry initiatives.
- Serve as a visible spiritual leader within the congregation.

Spiritual Qualifications
- Demonstrates a vibrant Christian faith and a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Supports the doctrine, mission, and values of the church.
- Models Christian character, humility, integrity, and servant leadership.
- Exhibits emotional maturity and relational health.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in music, worship ministry, theology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience leading worship in a church setting.
- Experience recruiting, training and leading volunteer teams.
- Familiarity with Methodist worship traditions is preferred.
Skills
- Strong vocal and instrumental proficiency (guitar or piano suggested; additional instruments are a plus).
- Ability to lead worship confidently from an instrument.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with worship technology, including ProPresenter and digital audio systems (or willingness to learn).
- Ability to work collaboratively with pastors, staff, and volunteers.
- Creative planning and problem-solving abilities.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time, salaried position. Typical responsibilities include:
- Sunday worship services
- Weekly rehearsals
- Office hours for planning and administration
- Ministry events as needed
- Seasonal services and special worship events
The Worship Leader embraces Wesleyan theology and works collaboratively with the pastors to create worship that reflects the richness of Methodist tradition while engaging contemporary worshipers. This includes incorporating Scripture, prayer, the sacraments, the Christian calendar, congregational participation, and a balance of historic hymns and modern worship music. The Worship Leader values worship as a means of grace through which people encounter God, grow as disciples of Jesus Christ, and are sent into the world for ministry and mission.
Compensation Range: $50,000-$63,000.
This position is also eligible for PTO as well as health insurance and retirement benefits. The church contributes 8% of Full Time employee’s salary to a retirement account.
Pay: $50,000.00 - $63,000.00 per year
