Full Job Description

Job description:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Heavy Fleet Diagnostic Technician/Mechanic to join our fleet maintenance operation. This is not a basic PM or parts-changing position. Diagnostic ability is one of the most important qualifications for this role. We need a technician who can take an equipment complaint, determine the root cause, make the correct repair and verify the repair before returning the asset to service.

What You Will Work On: Our fleet is diverse and includes:

Medium and Heavy-duty Trucks
Class 8 Trucks
Construction and Heavy Equipment
On-Highway and Off-Highway Equipment
Diesel-powered Equipment
Hydraulic Systems and Attachments
Electrical and Electronically Controlled Systems

Variety is a major part of this position. You will not spend every day working on the same make, model, or type of equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:

Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, HVAC, engine, drivetrain and chassis problems.
Determine root cause of failures rather than simply replacing parts based on fault codes.
Perform advanced diagnostics using OEM and professional diagnostic software.
Read and interpret wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, OEM service information, troubleshooting trees, and technical documentation.
Diagnose electrical systems using DVOMs, voltage-drop testing, circuit testing, and other appropriate diagnostic methods.
Diagnose hydraulic systems using pressure and flow testing.
Diagnose diesel engine performance, fuel, turbocharger, cooling and aftertreatment systems.
Diagnose DPF, DOC, SCR/DEF and regeneration-related problems.
Diagnose transmissions, drivetrains, air brakes, ABS, chassis systems, and related components.
Perform mechanical repairs ranging from routine component replacement through major repairs.
Verify repairs and confirm the original complaint has been corrected before returning equipment to service.
Document diagnostic findings and repairs performed.
Work independently while communicating effectively with fleet management and other technicians.
Assist and mentor less-experienced technicians when appropriate.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must have:

10+ years of professional heavy-duty/heavy-equipment mechanic experience.
Strong demonstrated diagnostic and troubleshooting ability
Extensive practical diesel engine diagnostic and repair experience
Strong practical electrical diagnostic knowledge.
Strong practical hydraulic diagnostic and repair knowledge.
Experience with both on-highway and off-highway equipment.
Experience working on assets ranging from light-duty vehicles through Class 8 trucks and heavy equipment.
Ability to read electrical wiring diagrams and hydraulic schmatics.
Ability to independently take a repair from: Operator complaint to Testing to Diagnosis to Repair to Verification.
Diagnostic Software Experience - Candidates must have significant hands-on experience using manufacturers and professional diagnostic software. Experience should include platforms such as: Cummins INSITE, CAT Electronic Techician (CAT ET), Eaton ServiceRanger, and JPRO Professional
Experience with additional OEM platforms is strongly preferred. We are looking for someone who understands how to use these programs as diagnostic tools, not simply to read and clear fault codes.

Preferred Qualifications:

CDL - Preferred but not required
CAN/J1939 Network Diagnostic experience
Advanced Diesel aftertreatment/emissions diagnostic experience
Air Brake experience
PTO and Wet-Kit experience
Welding and Fabrication ability
Construction equipment experience
Additional OEM training, ASE, EPA Certifications
Experience mentoring junior technicians
Clean Driving record and ability to operate company equipment

Must pass a preemployment drug screen and background check. Must also have a Driver's License, CDL preferred but not required.
