About Us

Oklahoma Cancer & Blood Specialists is an independent, physician-owned oncology and hematology practice serving patients across Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Weatherford, and Enid. Our medically integrated dispensary (MID) is a closed-door pharmacy — we dispense exclusively to patients of our own medical group. That means no walk-in retail traffic and no outside prescriptions. Every prescription you touch belongs to a patient whose chart, providers, and treatment plan are right in front of you.

This model lets patients start therapy faster, with fewer handoffs and better follow-up from the same team managing their cancer care. We dispense oral oncolytics, supportive care injectables, and the range of other drugs commonly used in oncology and hematology — both room-temperature and refrigerated. Patients pick up their medications in conjunction with their clinic appointments, and because these are specialty oncology and supportive care drugs, refills are monitored at 30-day-or-less intervals — so the fill schedule and the treatment schedule stay aligned.

This position is based at our main practice location in Oklahoma City.

Position Summary

We are seeking a certified Pharmacy Technician to support day-to-day operations of our closed-door, in-office dispensary. You will work directly alongside our on-site pharmacist, providers, nurses, and patient access staff to dispense specialty oncology and supportive care drugs — oral, injectable, and otherwise — accurately, manage inventory, and keep patients moving through the fill process without delay. Our pharmacist is on site and performs final verification on every prescription before it is released to the patient. A meaningful part of this role is securing financial assistance for patients — pursuing foundation grants and manufacturer programs so cost is not the reason someone stops treatment.

This is not a retail role. We serve only our own patients — there is no walk-in traffic and no general public to serve, and this is not a high-volume counting job. Our patient population is defined, specialized, and known to us. The drug catalog is high-cost and high-touch, and the work is weighted toward verification, insurance and financial access, and inventory accuracy rather than fill speed. If you take pride in precision and want to see the direct impact of your work on patients in active cancer treatment, this role will suit you.

Systems You'll Use

Liberty Software — dispensing, labeling, and claims adjudication
iKnowMed — oncology EHR; treatment plans, orders, and clinical documentation
AdvancedMD — practice management; scheduling, demographics, and insurance

Prior experience with these specific platforms is welcome but not required. If you're a strong technician who learns systems quickly, we will train you.

Key Responsibilities

Receive, enter, and process prescriptions in the dispensing system under the supervision of our on-site pharmacist, who performs final verification on all prescriptions
Prepare, label, and dispense medications for patient pickup at the time of their scheduled appointment. Most oral therapies are manufacturer-bottled as a one-month supply, so the stock bottle is typically the bottle dispensed; counting is occasional rather than routine
Collect patient copayments and prescription deductible amounts as determined by the patient's insurance plan, and balance the register accurately at close of business
Verify patient demographics, insurance, and prescription accuracy prior to fill
Adjudicate claims, troubleshoot rejections, and coordinate prior authorizations with the patient access team
Actively seek and secure patient financial assistance: research eligibility, complete and submit applications to oncology care foundations, grant programs, manufacturer copay assistance, and patient assistance programs, then track awards, balances, and renewal dates so funding does not lapse mid-therapy
Maintain dispensary inventory across both room-temperature and refrigerated stock: receiving, put-away, cycle counts, expiration date monitoring, returns, and reorder points
Maintain cold chain for refrigerated medications: verify shipping temperatures on arrival, store promptly and correctly, monitor and document refrigerator temperatures, and escalate any excursion immediately
Reconcile daily wholesaler invoices and receipts against orders placed
Coordinate refills on a 30-day-or-less cycle, timing fills to upcoming appointments so medication is ready when the patient arrives
Support adherence outreach and monitor patients on specialty oncology and supportive care drugs between fills
Follow USP <800> and NIOSH guidance for safe handling of hazardous drugs
Maintain accurate records in compliance with Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and HIPAA
Assist with dispensary reporting, log maintenance, and audit preparation
Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients who are managing a serious diagnosis

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED
Active Pharmacy Technician license/registration with the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy (or eligibility to obtain prior to start)
PTCB certification (CPhT) required
Minimum 2 years of pharmacy technician experience
Working knowledge of pharmacy dispensing software and third-party claims adjudication
Comfort working across multiple systems in a single workflow
Strong attention to detail and comfort working with high-value inventory
Willingness and ability to handle money: our pharmacist and pharmacy technicians collect patient copayments and deductible amounts directly. Candidates who are not comfortable with cash and payment handling should not apply.
Professional, dependable, and able to maintain strict patient confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in oncology, specialty, or medically integrated dispensing
Experience securing patient financial assistance through oncology foundations, grant programs, or manufacturer patient assistance programs
Familiarity with prior authorization workflows
Experience with Liberty pharmacy software
Experience with iKnowMed EHR or AdvancedMD practice management (or comparable oncology EHR/PM systems)
Experience with cold-chain handling, temperature monitoring, or refrigerated inventory
Working knowledge of USP <797>/<800> handling standards
Inventory management or wholesaler ordering experience (McKesson or similar)

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
No nights, no weekends, no holidays
100% on-site (this position is not eligible for remote or hybrid work)

Compensation and Benefits

$20.00 – $24.00 per hour, commensurate with experience and certification
