Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to lead our accounting team and ensure the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of our financial operations. In this pivotal role, you will oversee a broad spectrum of accounting functions, including financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls. Your expertise will drive the organization’s financial health and support strategic decision-making. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work within a mission-driven organization that values transparency, precision, and continuous improvement.

Duties

Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, and payroll processing.
Oversee the preparation of accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and ensure timely reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
Maintain compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) requirements and other regulatory standards relevant to nonprofit, governmental, or corporate accounting environments.
Conduct balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and account analysis to verify data integrity and identify discrepancies.
Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard confidential information and ensure adherence to accounting standards.
Prepare for audits by coordinating with external auditors, providing necessary documentation, and addressing audit findings promptly.
Mentor and develop accounting staff by providing training on technical accounting concepts such as SEC reporting, GAAP standards, double entry bookkeeping, and financial software systems like Sage, Xero, or other enterprise solutions.

Requirements

Proven experience in accounting management with a strong background in financial analysis, financial report writing, interpretation of financial statements, and budgeting.
Extensive knowledge of corporate accounting practices including SOX compliance, international accounting standards, governmental accounting procedures, and non-profit accounting frameworks such as LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit).
Demonstrated expertise in technical accounting areas such as securities law, wills/trusts & estate law, regulatory reporting, tax experience, and audit procedures.
Proficiency with financial software platforms including Sage, Xero, Microsoft Office Suite (especially spreadsheets), and other accounting systems.
Strong understanding of GAAP principles along with experience in accrual accounting, journal entries, cash flow analysis, account reconciliation, and balance sheet management.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
Effective mentoring skills to develop team members’ technical knowledge in areas like public accounting practices or private equity finance.
