Full Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: Outpatient Counselor (Chemical Dependency and/or Mental Health)

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: IOP Manager or Clinical Director

POSITION SUPERVISED: None

QUALIFICATIONS/CREDIENTIALS:

1) Minimum of an LCDC II, LSW, or equivalent, in State of Ohio required.

2) Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer competency required.

3) Three years’ experience, preferred.

4) Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, social work, or related field preferred.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Outpatient counselors provide individual and group counseling services in the outpatient program (IOP and Non-Intensive program). The counselor completes a comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment when necessary, formulates a treatment plan and maintains appropriate documentation of all services. The counselor will provide IOP and non-IOP individual therapy, group therapy and case management services. Mental health counselors who qualify may provide the mental health services.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

1. Demonstrates knowledge of addiction and withdrawal process.

2. Demonstrates knowledge of mental health diagnosis and issues.

3. Demonstrates knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.

4. Ability to establish therapeutic alliance with clients.

5. Ability to respond to urgent client issues.

6. Ability to work cooperatively with other staff/disciplines as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.

7. Ability to conduct educational/therapy groups regarding substance abuse / dependence and mental health.

8. Ability to conduct individual and group counseling.

9. Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.

10. Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation of all services.

11. Ability to assess client progress and determine appropriate level of care.

12. Ability to facilitate positive discharge from current level of care and ongoing care at next level of care.

13. Understanding of standards of care established by OhioMHAS and Joint Commission.

14. Demonstrates knowledge of community resources for clients.

15. Ability to represent Stella Maris with external agencies/professionals

16. Maintains CPR certification.

17. Completion of requirements for annual agency training compliance.

18. Upholds client rights and confidentiality regulations.

1. Performs other duties of the position and within the individual’s capabilities as assigned by his/her supervisor.
