Full Job Description

Position Summary:

The Assistant On-Site Supervisor supports the daily operation of the Bloom child care program under the direction of the On-Site Supervisor. This position assists in ensuring compliance with Iowa licensing regulations, maintaining a safe and healthy environment for children, and supporting high-quality care for all enrolled children, including those with medically fragile or complex health needs.

The Assistant On-Site Supervisor provides leadership support to staff, assists with documentation and compliance tasks, and helps ensure continuity of care when the On-Site Supervisor is not present.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the On-Site Supervisor in the daily operation of the program in accordance with Iowa Administrative Code (441 IAC 109)
Support maintenance of licensing compliance related to health, safety, staffing, and supervision
Provide on-site leadership and act as a point of contact in the absence of the On-Site Supervisor
Help ensure required staff-to-child ratios are maintained at all times
Assist with staff supervision, coaching, and day-to-day support
Support implementation of health, safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures
Assist in ensuring a safe and healthy environment for children and staff
Help monitor medication administration procedures and documentation compliance
Report concerns related to licensing, safety, or compliance to the On-Site Supervisor immediately
Assist in maintaining required program documentation, including:
Attendance records
Incident and injury reports
Medication logs
Staff schedules and records
Child records and care plans
Ensure documentation is completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with licensing requirements
Support implementation of individualized care plans for children, including those with medical or developmental needs
Help ensure staff follow individualized instructions, health plans, and emergency procedures
Assist in coordinating communication with parents/guardians regarding daily care, health updates, and incidents
Support inclusion and appropriate care for medically fragile children under established care plans
Maintain professional communication with staff, families, and leadership
Assist with onboarding and training support for new staff as directed
Serve as a positive role model for staff and children
Communicate concerns or operational needs to the On-Site Supervisor
Assist in monitoring and maintaining program supplies and equipment
Support preparation for licensing visits, audits, and internal reviews
Help ensure program readiness and organization on a daily basis

Minimum Qualifications:

Must meet or be working toward qualifications under Iowa Administrative Code (441 IAC 109) for assistant supervisory roles.

At least 18 years of age
High school diploma or GED required
Must obtain (or currently hold):
Infant, child, and adult CPR certification
First Aid certification
Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Training
Medication Administration Training (or willingness to obtain upon hire)

Demonstrated Ability To:

Support staff supervision and program operations
Maintain accurate documentation and records
Follow licensing regulations and program policies
Communicate effectively with staff and families
Work collaboratively in a fast-paced child care environment

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in child care, education, health care, or related field
Coursework or experience in early childhood education, child development, or human services
Experience supporting children with medical needs or disabilities
Familiarity with Iowa child care licensing requirements

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform physical tasks associated with child care, including lifting up to 50 lbs
Frequent standing, bending, walking, and active engagement with children
Ability to assist children with mobility, positioning, or personal care needs as required

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 6:30am-9:00am, Monday, 1:30pm-6:00pm and Tuesday-Friday 3:15pm-6:00pm
Additional hours may be required for training, meetings, or coverage needs
Must be available to step into leadership coverage when needed in absence of On-Site Supervisor

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
