Primary Purpose of Job
The Aquatics Assistant Director ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for members, guests, and staff while supporting the delivery of high-quality aquatic programs and services. Responsibilities include staff supervision, scheduling, swim lesson coordination, pool operations, customer service, and assisting with special events and department initiatives.
The Aquatics Assistant Director works closely with the Aquatics Director and other departments to promote participation, maintain safety and compliance standards, and support the mission and values of the organization.

Qualifications
- High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in recreation, sports management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of aquatics, recreation, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Prior lifeguarding, swim instruction, or aquatic program experience required.
- Prior experience with scheduling/registration software (e.g. Daxko). High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred or related work experience
Essential Job Funtions
Manage staff, including, but not limited to:
- Recruit, interview, hire, and train staff within the department.
- Oversee the day-to-day workflow of the department.
- Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to staff.
- Handle discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with JFO policy.
Aquatics Operations
- Assist with the daily operation of aquatic facilities, including pools, locker areas, and related spaces.
- Support implementation and enforcement of aquatic policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Monitor pool operations to ensure compliance with health department regulations and organizational standards.
- Assist in maintaining appropriate chemical levels, pool logs, and safety documentation.
- Help coordinate pool schedules, lane usage, rentals, and special events.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
- Ensure proper staff coverage for all aquatic programs and operational hours.
- Conduct in-service trainings and safety drills as assigned.
- Support a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment.
Programming & Member Engagement
- Assist with the coordination and administration of swim lessons, aquatic fitness classes, swim team activities, and other aquatic programs.
- Support member and participant engagement by providing excellent customer service and responding to questions or concerns in a timely manner.
- Assist with program promotion, registration, and participation growth efforts.
- Help evaluate programs and recommend improvements based on participation and feedback.
Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure the safety of all members, guests, and staff within the aquatic environment.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and enforce all emergency procedures.
- Maintain required certifications and ensure staff certifications remain current.
- Complete accident and incident reports as required.
- Administrative Responsibilities
- Assist with payroll review, staff scheduling, inventory, and purchasing of aquatic supplies and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, certifications, attendance, and program documentation.
- Support department budgeting and expense monitoring as assigned.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and organizational initiatives.
Administrative & Operational Duties
- Maintain accurate program records, attendance tracking, and reporting.
- Administration of assigned programs for monthly billings, receivables, and payments.
- Assist with budget tracking, supply ordering, and inventory management.
- Ensure facilities and equipment are safe, clean, and well-maintained.
- Promote programs through outreach, marketing support, and community engagement efforts.
- Enforce organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- May perform duties outside respective area of responsibility as requested.
- Reliable and predictable attendance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Schedule
Hours: Sunday to Thursday
This position requires evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays required based on organizational needs.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Maintain current certification in CPR/AED and be able to assist in emergency situations.
- Lifeguard Certification.
- Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification preferred or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Nebraska Pool Operator’s Certification preferred or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Ability to identify outstanding staff resources that are available to the JCC for programming and to supervise those resources on an ongoing basis.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to handle competing priorities and deadlines by demonstrating excellent time management skills.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.

- The person in this position needs to constantyl move about the campus, both indoors and outdoors.

- The person in this position constantly communicates with others. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

- Must be able to remain in a stationary position occasionally working on a computer in an office environment.
- Occasionally operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

- Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
