Full Job Description

Millard Lumber is seeking dependable, motivated individuals to join our team as a Commercial Estimator I. In this role, you will assist in developing detailed and accurate cost estimates, material takeoffs, and project proposals for commercial construction projects. Working closely with sales, design, and project teams, you will help ensure customers receive comprehensive proposals that meet project requirements and support successful project execution.

What You'll Do

Review and analyze architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and related construction documents to develop accurate material takeoffs and project estimates.
Create comprehensive material lists for commercial construction projects, including engineered wood products, trusses, wall panels, rough carpentry materials, siding, soffit, decking, roofing, and associated labor components.
Prepare detailed, professional proposals and cost estimates using company pricing guidelines, discount structures, and estimating formulas.
Collaborate daily with sales staff, designers, vendors, project stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure estimates and proposals accurately reflect project requirements.
Review proposals with sales representatives and management to confirm customer needs have been met and anticipated.
Provide technical guidance and support to sales and customer service teams regarding products, materials, and customer inquiries.
Contribute to process improvements, estimating controls, and team development, including training and mentoring less experienced team members as needed.
Manage workload effectively to meet deadlines and productivity goals.
Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

High School Diploma, GED, related degree, or equivalent industry experience.
Minimum of two (2) years of estimating experience.
At least one (1) year of experience in the lumber or building materials industry, with an emphasis on estimating preferred.
Experience with estimating software such as Prebuilt or a similar platform.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
Architectural design and/or CAD knowledge preferred but not required.
Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and building systems.
Strong math, measurement, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to evaluate alternatives, identify solutions, and make sound business decisions.
Commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and teamwork.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, walk, balance, stoop, grasp, speak, hear, and operate standard computer equipment.
Position may require reaching at, above, or below shoulder and waist levels.
Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
Clear close-range vision required for reading plans, specifications, and computer work.
Ability to walk through lumberyards, production, and construction site environments as needed.
Must be able to travel to and navigate active job sites when required.

Schedule

Full-time position.
Primarily office-based with standard business hours.
Occasional travel to job sites and project locations may be required.
Schedule may vary based on project deadlines, customer needs, and business demands.
