Plant Manager – Tier 1 Automotive (Non-Union, 2 Shifts, 250+ Employees)

RELOCATION AVAILABLE WITHIN REASON

Position Summary

The Plant Manager is fully accountable for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing facility with 250+ employees, operating on two shifts. This leader is highly visible and hands-on on the production floor, driving continuous improvement, quality, delivery, and cost performance while ensuring compliance with customer, corporate, and regulatory requirements. This is a confidential replacement position. Ideal candidate will have some experience in the automotive or metalworking sectors—specifically someone who has worked with Just-In-Time systems, as that environment is very demanding and high-pressure.

Experience with assembly processes would be a major plus, and expertise in automotive seating systems would be excellent.

Key Responsibilities

Provide overall leadership for all plant operations, including production, maintenance, quality, materials, engineering, and EHS.
Maintain a strong, daily presence on the plant floor; observe operations, remove obstacles, and coach supervisors and team members in real time.
Own and manage the plant P&L, including budget development, forecasting, cost control, and delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial targets.
Drive a culture of continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, and problem-solving tools to improve safety, quality, OEE, scrap, labor efficiency, and throughput.
Ensure the plant meets or exceeds customer requirements for quality, delivery, and launch readiness; actively support customer visits, audits, and APQP/PPAP activities.
Develop, track, and communicate key performance indicators (safety, quality, delivery, cost, morale) and lead corrective actions when performance is off plan.
Champion a proactive safety culture; ensure OSHA and company safety standards are met, risk assessments are completed, and corrective actions are implemented promptly.
Oversee production planning and labor allocation across two shifts to meet demand, manage overtime, and optimize staffing levels.
Lead and develop the leadership team (supervisors, engineers, functional managers), ensuring strong succession planning, performance management, and engagement.
Partner with HR to maintain a stable, non-union workforce; promote positive employee relations, effective communication, and consistent application of policies.
Ensure compliance with all relevant quality systems (e.g., IATF 16949/ISO 9001) and support audits and corrective action processes.
Collaborate with corporate leadership on strategic initiatives, capital investment, capacity planning, and customer growth opportunities.

Qualifications – Required

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or related technical field (degree is mandatory).
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in automotive manufacturing, including at least 5 years in a plant leadership or equivalent multi-department operations role.
Direct experience managing a Tier 1 automotive plant or large automotive manufacturing operation supplying OEMs or Tier 1s.
Proven, hands-on leadership style with extensive presence on the shop floor and a track record of driving continuous improvement.
Demonstrated P&L ownership experience, including budgeting, cost control, productivity improvement, and delivery of financial commitments.
Experience leading a non-union manufacturing workforce of 250+ employees in a multi-shift (minimum two-shift) environment.
Strong background in Lean manufacturing, problem-solving methodologies, and implementation of CI projects with measurable results.
Solid understanding of automotive quality systems and requirements (e.g., IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, customer-specific requirements).
Excellent leadership, communication, and change management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization and with customers.

Preferred Attributes

Experience with high-volume, just-in-time automotive production (e.g., assembly, machining, stamping, injection molding, or similar).
Formal CI/Lean certifications (e.g., Six Sigma Green/Black Belt) are highly desirable.
Proven success in start-up, turnaround, or major performance-improvement situations.
