Full Job Description

Green Hills Area Education Agency is looking to fill a Speech Language Pathologist (face to face or Teletherapist position with preferred experience with American Sign Language (ASL). Qualifications: Completion of training with a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language

Pathology and a current license from the Iowa Board of Speech
Pathology and Audiology, in the Department of Public Health
(DPH), and a Statement of Professional Recognition (SPR) from the
Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. Or meet Iowa Board of
Educational Examiners guidelines for a Speech-Language
Pathologist and possess the ability to obtain the Iowa DPH licensure within two years of hire.

Experience with American Sign Language

General
Responsibilities: Essential Functions:

Consultation, Collaboration, and Coaching:

Serve as a liaison among AEA team members, school staff, families, and community organizations to enhance learner outcomes.
Collaborate with school teams to develop, and evaluate intervention strategies within the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
Provide consultation to staff on communication development and the impact of communication disorders on learning and social-emotional development.

Assessment and Intervention

Complete comprehensive evaluations to determine eligibility for Early ACCESS or special education services and develop Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) or Individualized Education Program (IEPs).
Providing direct instruction or consultative support to improve speech sound disorders
Providing direct instruction or consultative support to improve expressive and receptive language disorders (e.g., increasing words spoken, ability to ask and answer questions, ability to communicate wants, needs and experiences)
Utilize research-based practices to create and implement individualized instruction and monitor effectiveness through data collection.
Instructional Support

Use data to inform instructional strategies, measure progress, and refine interventions.
Support school teams in collecting and analyzing data for academic and behavioral improvement in special education.

Identify need and train district and school staff on the use and coordination of communication assistive technology (e.g., AAC device with speech output, core board).

Compliance and Documentation

Ensure confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA regulations.
Maintain accurate and timely records of assessments, interventions, and progress monitoring in compliance with state, federal, and agency policies.
Participate actively in eligibility meetings, IEP meetings, and reevaluations to support data-based decision-making and goal alignment.
Utilize consistent organization and workload planning to ensure efficient use of time and resources.
Effectively prioritize tasks and manage workload to meet deadlines and progress monitor learner goals within established timelines.
Implement and maintain systematic progress monitoring procedures, accurately collecting data, and generating timely reports.
Professional Development

Participate in internal and external (as directed) professional learning activities to stay current with trends and evidence-based practices

Working Conditions

Regular travel requirements: Frequent travel is required between office locations and school sites within the agency's designated region. Travel often involves multiple trips within a single day and may necessitate extended periods in a vehicle. Occasional statewide or out-of-state travel for conferences, training sessions, and other professional development events is also expected.
Physical demands: In addition to regular standing and sitting, the role may involve prolonged periods of walking or standing, particularly during site visits or meetings. Occasional lifting and carrying of equipment and materials (weighing up to 25 pounds) is required. This may include setting up for presentations, carrying materials to different locations, and managing files or supplies. The role also requires sufficient mobility and dexterity to perform office-based tasks, including typing, filing, and other administrative duties.
Environmental conditions: Travel and on-site visits may expose employees to varying weather conditions and environments, including outdoor settings, school facilities, and community event locations. The ability to adapt to diverse environments, including loud or crowded spaces, is important.
Visual and auditory requirements: Effective performance in this role requires clear and efficient verbal communication with staff, learners, and community members. Auditory ability is necessary for listening to presentations and participating in discussions, while visual acuity is required for reviewing documents, digital screens, and visual materials.
Cognitive demands: The role requires a high level of concentration, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. The ability to remain organized and flexible amidst frequent interruptions and variable work schedules is essential.
