Position: Cook
Classification: Non-Key / Non-Exempt
Reports to: Sous Chef/Kitchen Manager
Position Summary:
Responsible for preparing all foods listed on the respective menus that are to be grilled, fried, and boiled or as needed. Be responsible for food preparation, presentation and quality.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Ensure that all plates served are aesthetically appealing and cooked to the specifications of the customers
Keep working station neat and exceptionally clean at all times
Maintains a constant awareness of safety and accident prevention
Performing all job duties in the safest possible manner, immediately notifying the supervisor and reporting if a personal accident does occur
Assists in quality control of prepared food items
Ability to read and follow recipes and daily production planning sheets
Replenishes food as needed
Assists in monitoring food items, check food temperatures, and change food items when necessary
Assists fellow employees with their duties as well as always maintaining high sanitation standards
Always Provide a High Level of Customer Service
Restaurant Associates must be on time for work and present on scheduled days. Associates must also be present for mandatory training and meetings
Adhere to the policies and procedures as stated in the Blackbird Bend Casino team member handbook;
Must have neat and orderly appearance

Food handling and safety
When handling food safety precautions must be taken to ensure the safety of our customers as well as the quality of our food.

Always follow serve safe guidelines

Sanitize workstation after every task to prevent cross contamination

Stock cooler/freezer inventory accordantly to prevent cross contamination

Always clean knives after use

Use proper cutting boards to specific colors meat, poultry, veggies etc.

Always wear gloves and proper cook wear such as aprons, hair nets

When prepping always date products no exceptions

Never leave food on floor products must be kept at least 6 inches from the floor

After every shift workstations must be cleaned and sanitized no exceptions

Work equipment must be cleaned after every shift
Set Up Station

The cook's first task of the day is setting up he/she station for service by bringing all food items and containers to the line Prep Items for Service as well as the next shift.

Next, a cook prepares all items needed for service, from chopping vegetables to making sauces and butcher meat. Sometimes, cooks will be asked to prepare items for another station or special event.
Work Service

During service, a cook must work to cook components of a table's meal at the same pace as the other cooks to ensure that everything is finished at the same time. To be successful, he/she will focus on accuracy, presentation, cleanliness and timing.
Clean Station

After service, they wrap all unused items, properly store them in the walk-in and lowboy refrigerators. They clean the station with soap and sanitizer and ensure that all equipment has been properly shut off for the night.
General Duties

A Team member must complete various task throughout the kitchen such as

Clean kitchen equipment, organize produce delivery, train a new cook and complete a nightly inventory. cooks should expect to stand all day and work long hours in a hot and crowded space

Reporting to Supervisor/Manager

Communication has a key role in the kitchen environment. Always be aware of your surroundings when cutting or being near a team member while cutting or lifting hot pans.

Always communicate with supervisors/manager and team members on tasks/prepping to ensure that it has been completed.
Shift communication is always important to have good communication between shifts. To ensure that both shifts work in sync with one another prepping for the next shift is vital asset to the kitchen. By doing this it will help each shift run as smoothly as possible
Minimum Qualifications
Works in areas with varying or excessive noise, smoke-filled environment;
Ability to communicate with customers and employees;
Prior experience is preferred as well as a proven track record demonstrating sound judgment;
Possess the ability to work under pressure;
Ability to be a TEAM player;
Be available to work evenings, holidays, weekends and varying shifts;
Must be willing to obtain licensures and certificates as needed;
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age or older upon employment;
Must have a High School Diploma or be actively pursuing a GED;
Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Gaming License.
