Job Description:
The Financial Wellness & Scholarship Coordinator supports SUNY Oneonta's commitment to access, affordability, and student success by coordinating financial aid outreach, delivering financial wellness education, and administering institutional and foundation scholarship programs. Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, this position serves as a key resource for students and families navigating the financial aspects of higher education.
The position combines student-facing financial aid counseling, financial wellness education, scholarship administration, and outreach efforts to support student access, affordability, persistence, and success.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Financial Outreach/Literacy & Student Engagement
- Planning, implementing, and delivering financial aid outreach and financial literacy programs for prospective and current students and their families.

Conducting FAFSA and New York State TAP completion workshops, as well as financial literacy workshops focused on budgeting, student loans, credit management, debt awareness, and financial decision-making in on-campus, off-campus, and virtual settings.

Representing SUNY Oneonta in person and virtually at college fairs, high school visits, and community-based events.

Providing individualized counseling on financial aid eligibility, financial planning, verification, and awarding.

Collaborating with Admissions, Academic Advising, AOP, ACE, and other campus partners to support recruitment, retention, and student persistence initiatives.
Scholarship Administration
- Coordinating the administration of institutional, private, and SUNY Oneonta Foundation scholarships.

Managing scholarship communications with recipients, applicants, donors, and campus partners.

Administering scholarship application, review, awarding, and renewal processes while promoting equitable awarding practices.

Collaborating with the SUNY Oneonta Foundation to ensure alignment with donor intent and stewardship expectations.

Monitoring student eligibility and academic criteria for scholarship recipients.

Maintaining accurate records for reporting and reconciliation of all scholarship programs.
Financial Aid
- Assisting in the development and implementation of communication strategies that promote financial aid awareness and financial literacy.

Supporting office-wide outreach initiatives related to FAFSA completion, verification, and participation in financial aid programs.

Serving as a financial aid counselor for an assigned student population and assisting students and families in navigating financial aid processes and resolving aid-related concerns.
Compliance & Operations
- Maintaining compliance with federal Title IV regulations, New York State aid programs (e.g., TAP and Excelsior Scholarship), SUNY policies, and institutional procedures.

Assisting with verification, documentation review, and professional judgment processes as needed.

Maintaining accurate data within Banner and scholarship management platforms.

Supporting audit, reporting, and program review activities.

Tracking and reporting participation, scholarship utilization, FAFSA completion activities, and financial wellness programming outcomes.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Minimum of one year of professional experience or two years of paraprofessional experience working with students, families, or educational programs in a higher education, nonprofit, or customer-service environment.

Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

Valid driver's license by the time of appointment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of federal financial aid regulations (Title IV) and New York State student aid programs, including TAP and the Excelsior Scholarship.

One to three years of experience in financial aid administration, scholarship administration, or financial aid program operations.

Experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating scholarship programs, Title IV aid programs, or related student support initiatives.

Experience using Ellucian Banner or a comparable student information system.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a goal-oriented environment.

Experience working with and serving diverse populations.
