CMM Programmer / Quality Inspector

POSITION SUMMARY
Jaco Engineering is an established Anaheim precision machine shop producing close-tolerance machined components for the aerospace and defense industries. We are seeking an experienced CMM Programmer to write, prove out, and run PC-DMIS programs and to perform dimensional inspection of machined parts in support of production.
This is a hands-on role for an inspector who is fluent in GD&T, comfortable interpreting complex aerospace drawings and models, and able to take a part from drawing to a complete, submittable AS9102 First Article Inspection Report. You will work directly with machinists, programmers, and quality leadership to keep close-tolerance work moving and to keep our documentation audit-ready.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create, edit, debug, and prove out PC-DMIS programs for new and existing precision machined parts, including fixturing and datum alignment strategy.
- Perform first article, in-process, and final dimensional inspection on CMM as well as by surface plate and hand inspection methods.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, and customer specifications; establish correct datum reference frames and measurement methods to match print requirements.
- Prepare complete AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports (Forms 1, 2, and 3), including drawing ballooning, characteristic accountability, and supporting data packages.
- Document and report nonconforming conditions; support root cause and corrective action investigations with measurement data.
- Maintain CMM program library, revision control, and inspection records in accordance with our quality management system.
- Verify calibration status of gages and inspection equipment and support the calibration program.
- Communicate inspection findings clearly to machinists, manufacturing engineering, and quality management to drive part correction and process improvement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum five (5) years of hands-on experience as a CMM Programmer in a precision machining or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency programming and operating CMMs with PC-DMIS — not operator-only experience; you must be able to build a program from scratch.
- Strong working knowledge of GD&T and the ability to read and interpret ANSI/ASME Y14.5 engineering drawings.
- Proven experience completing aerospace AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports.
- Mechanical inspection skills on machined parts, including proficiency with micrometers, indicators, height gages, bore gages, gage pins, and surface plate setups.
- Ability to determine appropriate inspection methods, fixturing, and part alignment for close-tolerance features.
- Computer proficiency: MS Word, Excel, PDF handling, and email.
- U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person as defined under ITAR (22 CFR 120.62) — required for access to controlled technical data.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in an AS9100-certified aerospace or defense machine shop.
- Prior machinist or CNC background, with an understanding of how parts are held, cut, and deviate in process.
- Experience programming from CAD models (CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, or STEP/IGES) and performing profile and surface evaluation.
- Familiarity with additional metrology equipment such as vision systems, optical comparators, portable arms, or surface finish instruments.
- Exposure to internal auditing, customer source inspection, or DPD/model-based definition requirements.
