Job Description: Ornamental Turf & Pesticide Management Technician

Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and experienced Ornamental Turf & Pesticide Management Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for maintaining healthy turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees, and landscape areas through proper fertilization, weed control, pest control, disease management, and general lawn maintenance.
The ideal candidate will have experience with turf care, pesticide applications, ornamental plant health, and landscape maintenance. This person must be reliable, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to work independently or as part of a crew.
Primary Responsibilities
- Apply fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and other turf and ornamental treatments safely and correctly.
- Identify turf, weed, insect, disease, and plant health issues.
- Treat lawns, ornamental beds, shrubs, trees, and landscaped areas according to company standards and label requirements.
- Mix, load, and apply products according to all safety guidelines and pesticide label directions.
- Maintain accurate application records as required.
- Monitor turf and ornamental areas for signs of stress, disease, weeds, pests, or irrigation issues.
- Communicate property conditions, concerns, and treatment recommendations to management.
- Operate and maintain spray equipment, spreaders, backpack sprayers, and other application tools.
- Follow all federal, state, and local pesticide regulations.
- Use proper personal protective equipment at all times.
Additional Lawn Maintenance Duties
This position will also assist with general lawn maintenance as needed, including:
- Mowing residential, commercial, or HOA properties
- Edging sidewalks, curbs, driveways, and beds
- Weed eating/string trimming around buildings, fences, trees, and landscape areas
- Blowing off sidewalks, parking lots, patios, porches, and common areas
- Maintaining clean and professional-looking properties
- Assisting with cleanup, debris removal, and other landscape maintenance tasks
- Helping crew members complete daily routes and assigned jobs efficiently
Qualifications
- Experience in turf care, ornamental care, pesticide application, lawn maintenance, or landscaping preferred.
- OTPS License
- Pesticide applicator license
- Knowledge of fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, weeds, turfgrass, and ornamental plants is a plus.
- Ability to safely operate mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, sprayers, and spreaders.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and able to follow directions.
- Must have a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and materials as needed.
- Valid driver’s license..
- Clean driving record preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, lift, and work outdoors for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds when needed.
- Must be comfortable working around chemicals while following all safety procedures.
- Must be able to perform mowing, edging, weed eating, and blowing duties as part of daily work.
Schedule
Work schedule may vary depending on weather, season, and workload. Some early mornings, long days, or occasional weekend work may be required during peak season.
Compensation
This position pays $25–$33 per hour, depending on experience, licensing, reliability, and ability to perform both pesticide/turf management and lawn maintenance duties.
