Overview

A growing healthcare information management organization is conducting a confidential search for a dynamic and strategic Regional Director of Operations – Health Information Management (HIM) to lead and optimize Release of Information (ROI) and medical records operations across multiple healthcare facilities throughout the Western U.S., with a strong focus on Southern California.

This leadership role is responsible for overseeing regional HIM operations, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, driving operational excellence, managing client relationships, and developing high-performing teams. The ideal candidate brings strong operational leadership experience, a passion for healthcare data integrity, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-volume healthcare environments.

This individual will play a key role in improving operational efficiency, enhancing client satisfaction, and supporting the delivery of accurate, secure, and compliant health information services.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership

Lead regional operations for health information management and Release of Information (ROI) services across multiple healthcare facilities.
Oversee daily operational performance to ensure efficiency, productivity, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
Support the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of electronic health record (EHR) systems and related workflows.
Manage operational performance metrics and implement strategies focused on continuous improvement and service excellence.
Coordinate with site leadership to resolve operational challenges and improve workflow efficiencies.
Manage regional operational budgets and support financial performance initiatives.

Client & Healthcare Partner Management

Build and maintain strong relationships with healthcare clients, hospital leadership teams, and operational partners.
Serve as a primary point of contact for escalated operational and service-related concerns.
Ensure high levels of client satisfaction through responsive communication and operational consistency.

Team Leadership & Development

Lead, mentor, and support regional HIM leaders, supervisors, and operational staff.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and performance-driven culture.
Assist with workforce planning, staffing strategies, and capacity management initiatives.
Provide coaching and professional development opportunities to support team growth and operational excellence.

Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with HIPAA, healthcare privacy regulations, medical record retention standards, and internal operational policies.
Safeguard protected health information and maintain strict confidentiality standards.
Participate in operational audits, compliance reviews, and corrective action planning as needed.

Strategic Operations & Process Improvement

Collaborate cross-functionally to develop and implement operational strategies that improve efficiency and client outcomes.
Identify opportunities for workflow optimization, process enhancement, and operational scalability.
Support organizational initiatives related to quality improvement and healthcare information management best practices.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications

Minimum 2+ years of experience in Health Information Management (HIM), Release of Information (ROI), or healthcare operations leadership.
Previous experience managing employees, operational teams, or multi-site healthcare functions.
Strong knowledge of EHR systems, medical records management, healthcare workflows, and HIPAA compliance.
Experience working within hospitals, healthcare systems, or large multi-site healthcare environments.
Proven ability to improve operational processes and implement effective solutions.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability to remain composed and make sound decisions in high-pressure or fast-paced environments.
Experience managing productivity, workflow efficiency, and team performance.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, HIM, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Willingness to travel extensively throughout the Western U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

RHIT or RHIA certification strongly preferred.
Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), HIM, or related field preferred.
Experience with medical coding, billing workflows, or healthcare revenue cycle operations is a plus.
Experience supporting large hospital systems or complex healthcare networks preferred.

This is a field-based leadership role requiring frequent onsite presence throughout Southern California and the Western region.
