Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Recording & Mix Engineer – Mandopop & Vocal Production to join our team full-time in Irvine, California.
This role is focused on producing high-quality, commercially competitive Mandarin Pop (Mandopop) and contemporary Pop music, with a strong emphasis on professional vocal recording, vocal editing, tuning, and mixing.
The ideal candidate is a Mandarin-speaking recording/mixing engineer who understands both Western commercial music production standards and the vocal aesthetics, phrasing, diction, emotional delivery, and production style of contemporary Mandopop.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked at established recording studios, major-label environments, or professional producer/mixing teams and have verifiable credits on commercially released music.
This is a hands-on engineering position rather than primarily a songwriting or composition role. The successful candidate should be able to independently take a vocal project from recording through editing, tuning, mixing, and final delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Vocal Recording & Production
- Record professional-quality Mandarin and English lead vocals, background vocals, harmonies, doubles, and vocal layers.
- Direct and support singers during recording sessions to achieve technically accurate and emotionally appropriate vocal performances.
- Understand Mandarin pronunciation, diction, phrasing, tone, and lyrical expression when recording and editing vocals.
- Perform advanced vocal comping and select the strongest performances while maintaining natural phrasing and emotional continuity.
- Perform professional pitch and timing correction without making vocals sound overly processed or artificial.
- Handle vocal cleanup, breath management, sibilance control, timing alignment, and detailed vocal editing.
- Work effectively with male, female, and younger vocalists across different vocal styles and ranges.
- Maintain professional and organized Pro Tools sessions.
Mandopop Production
- Apply a strong understanding of contemporary Mandopop / Chinese Pop production aesthetics.
- Understand the differences between Mandarin vocal production and English-language Pop vocal production.
- Preserve natural Mandarin pronunciation and lyrical intelligibility during vocal comping, editing, and tuning.
- Understand common Mandopop vocal characteristics, including emotional phrasing, vocal dynamics, harmony arrangement, vocal layering, and spatial effects.
- Reference commercially successful Mandopop releases when evaluating vocal tone, balance, dynamics, and overall mix direction.
- Collaborate with Mandarin-speaking artists, producers, and production teams on creative and technical decisions.
- Help bridge production workflows and musical expectations between our U.S. and China-based teams.
Mixing & Post-Production
- Create polished, release-ready mixes for Mandopop, Pop, R&B, ballads, and related contemporary genres.
- Maintain clear, present, and emotionally engaging lead vocals while achieving appropriate balance with the instrumental arrangement.
- Apply professional EQ, compression, automation, reverb, delay, saturation, and other processing techniques.
- Ensure mixes translate consistently across professional studio monitors, headphones, mobile devices, televisions, and automotive audio systems.
- Prepare stems, instrumental versions, vocal versions, alternate mixes, and other deliverables.
- Complete revisions efficiently based on feedback from artists, producers, and international production teams.
- Perform basic mastering and pre-master preparation when needed.
Studio & Production Workflow
- Manage professional recording sessions from setup through final delivery.
- Maintain organized Pro Tools sessions, audio files, stems, templates, backups, and project archives.
- Collaborate remotely with producers, engineers, and mixing teams in China.
- Maintain professional studio equipment, microphones, preamps, signal routing, monitoring systems, and software.
- Recommend improvements to studio workflow, recording equipment, plugins, and production processes.
- Mentor junior engineers and help establish professional recording and vocal production standards for the team.
Required Qualifications
- Professional working proficiency or fluency in Mandarin Chinese.
- Strong understanding of Mandopop / Mandarin-language contemporary music and Mandarin vocal production.
- Ability to communicate directly with Mandarin-speaking artists and production team members regarding musical and technical matters.

- Strong portfolio of commercially released songs with verifiable credits.
- Recent professional recording or mixing experience, preferably within the past three years.
- Advanced proficiency with Avid Pro Tools.

- Strong proficiency with Melodyne, Auto-Tune, and VocAlign or comparable professional vocal-production tools.
