Job Description

POSITION GOAL To coordinate professional leadership in support of educational programs for exceptional student education and student services of Volusia County Schools

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. *Direct the assignment of all referrals for psychological services.
2. *Supervise designated personnel, including selection, training and performance appraisal.
3. *Develop departmental positions and procedures concerning school psychological services.
4. *Collaborate with staff development to offer inservice activities for school psychologists.
5. *Participate with professional and community agency groups as appropriate.
6. *Collaboratively develop psychological services for Pre-K through grade 12 and alternative education populations while providing direction and clarification on department policies and procedures with school and district staff.
7. *Facilitate development and implementation in tracking of goals, objectives and strategies related to transition of students.
8. *Collaborate with universities for placement and continued refinement of the internship program.
9. *Serve on various committees to assist in selection of tests and measurements; district technology initiatives, provide input in the development of policies concerning diagnostics, staffing and placement, student success teams, classroom interventions and other appropriate areas.
10. *Serve on the policies and outcome committee to develop, revise, and implement program policy and procedures.
11. *Direct the supervision of school psychology intern(s) to ensure a consistent and appropriate learning experience.
12. *Review and approve private reports with regard for accuracy and timeliness for use in the schools.
13. *Provide clinical supervision to staff on difficult and/or complex cases.
14. *Serve as a resource to school and district staff.
15. *Coordinate departmental representation for district crisis team response.
16. *Liaison for state Department of Education (DOE) and district in subject area councils, community organizations and parent groups.
17. *Respond to calls from parents, private practitioners, and agencies.
18. *Monitor staff compliance with department standards and accountability practices, and make recommendations for changes, as needed.
19. *Coordinate departmental representation for security audits.
20. *Remain knowledgeable of district, state and federal laws and policies affecting the practices of School Psychologists.
21. *Ensure that all program areas operate in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
22. *Engage in professional development to stay abreast of current trends in assessment, consultation and other pertinent issues affecting School Psychologists.
23. *Maintain certification in the Florida Performance Measurement System (FPMS) and other certifications that may be required for performance of duties.
24. *Maintain accurate records, logs, statistics, and reports for effective communication, documentation, departmental statistics, accountability and program evaluations.
25. *Recommend departments’ budget and appropriately expend funds.
26. *Provide communication link between schools and ESE program department in facilitating allocation of federal funds.
27. *Organize and maintain accurate information regarding service activity and test material inventory.
28. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director, Exceptional Student Education and Student Services.

Required Qualifications/Certifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, or School Psychology, or a related field
Hold or eligible to hold Florida Educator’s Certificate in a related subject area
Three (3) years successful school based or district level experience in psychology or administration and supervision
Experience in coordinating professional development related to performance responsibilities
Maintain any/ all certification as required to meet the needs of the position and law

REQUIRED SKILLS

Strong written, verbal, interaction and communication skills, including presentation skills
Ability to use group dynamics within the context of cultural diversity
Strong planning, organization, motivational, management and evaluation skills
Possess a thorough understanding of the practical applications of child growth and development in the area of exceptional student education
Ability to communicate with school-based and district staff on professional, specific and general areas of exceptional student education
Knowledge and practice of current educational trends, research and technology
Working knowledge of applicable policies, rules, laws and regulations
Ability to function as a member of a leadership team
Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with professional staff, school community, district and school level staff, outside agencies and parents/families
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with a high level of accountability
