Qualifications and Details about the Position
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Proven qualifications and experience in previous level
- Is able to: identify the pressure components of a boiler and their locations, and identify the tools and procedures required to repair the pressure components of a boiler
- Is able to: identify the non-pressure components of a boiler and their locations, and identify the tools and procedures required to repair the non-pressure components of a boiler
- Is able to discuss: the method for identifying problem tubes, the method for rolling tubes, the method for plugging tubes, and the method for extracting tubes
- Is able to determine the use of rigging equipment, and erect and/or rig: the Chicago boom, A-frame, balancing beam, and high lines
- Understands the various types of BRIL (Brick, Refractory, Insulation, and Lagging)
- Understands the theoretical operation of a boiler's auxiliary components
- Knows the location of auxiliary components, and the tools required to repair them
- Knows the various types of towers and their components, and the functions of the specific type of tower
- Knows the various types of exchangers, their components and the functions of the exchanger
- Is able to perform: pretest requirements, service and flow tests, head pressure tests, hydrostatic tests, and explain how to perform steam blow tests.
- Works under supervision of Boilermaker Journeyman
Education and Certification
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED
At least (2) years of experience
Heavy work - Lifting or moving up to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Use hands/fingers to handle or feel (Operate, Activate, Use, Prepare, Inspect, Place, Detect, Position)
