Young Champions, an established nonprofit-sponsored leader in affordable youth recreation programs, is seeking a dynamic, energetic, and results-oriented Hiring & Program Development Manager to help recruit outstanding coaches and instructors, develop new program locations, and expand our youth recreation programs throughout Southern California.
This position will begin at approximately 15–20 hours per week, with strong potential to grow into a full-time leadership position based on performance, program expansion, and organizational needs.
Our programs include Cheerleading, Karate/Self-Defense, Soccer, and other youth recreation activities. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about youth development who combines strong recruiting, marketing, leadership, business development, and organizational skills.
A major focus of this position will be recruiting and hiring coaches and instructors, establishing new classes with schools and school districts, developing community partnerships, and using modern marketing and AI technology to accelerate program growth.
We are particularly interested in a candidate who is highly proficient with AI tools such as ChatGPT and modern digital marketing platforms and understands how technology can improve recruiting, outreach, marketing, research, communications, and operational efficiency.
The position may be performed from our Huntington Beach office, remotely from home, or through a combination of both. Some local travel to schools, school districts, recreation facilities, events, and prospective program locations may be required.
Job Summary
The Hiring & Program Development Manager will play a key role in the growth and development of Young Champions programs by building a strong pipeline of qualified instructors, identifying new communities and locations, establishing relationships with schools and community partners, and helping coordinate successful new class launches.
The ideal candidate will bring a passion for youth recreation, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to take a program from an initial opportunity through instructor hiring, facility development, marketing, enrollment, and launch.
This position will work closely with senior management to develop innovative programs that promote active lifestyles, increase participation in affordable youth recreation, and expand Young Champions into new communities.
Key ResponsibilitiesRecruiting, Hiring & Staff Development
- Recruit qualified Cheerleading Coaches, Karate/Self-Defense Instructors, Soccer Coaches, and other youth recreation instructors.
- Develop and manage recruiting campaigns using Indeed, social media, colleges and universities, sports organizations, coaching networks, and other recruiting sources.
- Build an ongoing pipeline of qualified coaches and instructors for both existing and future locations.
- Screen applicants, conduct initial interviews, evaluate qualifications, and coordinate hiring and onboarding.
- Assist with instructor training, scheduling, communication, retention, and performance evaluation.
- Ability to set up programs and classes at school districts, churches, Parks and Rec. etc, (some Southern California and beyond traveling for hiring and class set up)
- Help supervise your hiring and program set up staff and maintain a motivated, productive, and professional team.
- Develop creative strategies to improve instructor recruitment and retention.
- Ability to work closely with CEO, Program Director, Cheerleading Director and Accounting Manager
Program Development & Expansion
- Lead and assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of youth sports and recreation programs based on community needs and organizational goals.
- Identify communities, schools, and geographic areas with strong potential for new Young Champions programs.
- Develop relationships with school districts, individual schools, recreation departments, community organizations, youth organizations, and other potential facilities.
- Contact school administrators, district personnel, athletic departments, coaches, booster organizations, and community partners regarding potential programs.
- Assist with proposals, presentations, email campaigns, phone outreach, and follow-up communications to establish new class locations.
- Coordinate with schools, facilities, instructors, and management to move new programs from the initial proposal through successful launch.
- Help coordinate class schedules, instructor assignments, facilities, marketing, student enrollment, and other operational requirements for new programs.
- Evaluate existing programs and recommend strategies to improve enrollment, efficiency, instructor performance, and overall program success.
Marketing, AI & Enrollment Growth
- Develop creative strategies to increase student registration, community awareness, and program participation.
- Assist with social media, digital advertising, email marketing, community outreach, school marketing, and instructor recruiting campaigns.
- Use AI tools such as ChatGPT and other AI platforms to improve recruiting, marketing, research, communications, advertising, content creation, and operational efficiency.
- Create and improve AI-assisted job advertisements, social media content, marketing materials, outreach campaigns, school proposals, presentations, and communications.
- Research and implement new AI and digital tools that can improve productivity and program growth.
- Track the effectiveness of recruiting and marketing campaigns and recommend improvements based on results.
- Help develop innovative and cost-effective methods for reaching parents, students, instructors, schools, and community partners.
Operations, Events & Performance Management
- Assist with the planning and execution of youth recreation activities, competitions, demonstrations, special events, and other programs as needed.
- Coordinate with staff, facilities, partners, vendors, and community stakeholders to ensure successful program delivery.
- Help oversee operational details at program locations and events to maintain a professional and positive experience for participants and families.
- Assist with program budgets and monitor expenditures to support cost-effective growth while maintaining program quality.
- Track instructor recruiting, new locations, enrollment, attendance, program growth, marketing results, and other key performance indicators.
- Prepare reports for management outlining recruiting results, program development progress, enrollment trends, opportunities, challenges, and recommended improvements.
- Assist management with operational planning, organization, and special projects.
Safety & Program Quality
- Help ensure programs follow established youth sports safety policies, risk-management procedures, and organizational standards.
- Work with management and instructors to promote safe, age-appropriate instruction and activities.
- First Aid/CPR knowledge or certification is preferred.
- Help maintain consistent program quality as Young Champions expands into additional locations.
Qualifications
- Degree in Sports Management, Sports Administration, Recreation Management, Marketing, Business, Human Resources, or a closely related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in recruiting, youth sports, recreation management, marketing, business development, program development, operations, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, interview, and help manage employees, coaches, or instructors.
- Strong marketing, sales, business-development, and communication abilities.
- Experience using AI tools, including ChatGPT, for recruiting, marketing, research, communications, content creation, or business productivity.
- Comfortable learning and implementing new AI and digital technologies.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple recruiting and program-development projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated and comfortable making calls, conducting outreach, following up with prospects, and developing new professional relationships.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, or similar productivity platforms.
