Shapiro Didway is a landscape architecture firm located in Portland, OR.

We bring a human-centered approach to our clients, our work, and our internal culture. We work throughout the Pacific Northwest, partnering with design teams, public and private clients, and the communities we serve. We work in site programming, design through construction, recreation enhancements, public involvement and playscapes with a focus on nature play and outdoor learning.

Our Story

We were co-founded in 2007 by Principal Emeritus Steve Shapiro and Managing Principal Blair Didway, with long-time employee and Landscape Architect Nate Otani named Principal in 2021.

In 2021, Shapiro Didway was at an inflection point. We set out to discover who we are, and create a brand that reflects our story and mission. As we celebrate the milestone of our 15th year of business, we have released a new brand and website to share our vision.

“With co-founder Steve Shapiro’s retirement in 2019 and our leadership team evolving, we felt it was the perfect time to center ourselves, define our core values, focus on our long-term goals, and be intentional about the work we do,” says Didway.

With a view toward more collaborative and community-driven projects (while still maintaining a strong portfolio in multifamily housing and education), Didway and Otani have shaped SD’s recent work in the community.

“At the core of SD is humanity and a passion for the work we do, its impact on our community, environment, and the partnerships we grow,” says Otani, “Our brand is an expression of the values we hold and a representation of our commitment to creating meaningful work.”

“We found that there is a deeper story to tell around our innovation in the field. We wanted a brand that reflected those values, our perspective, and a human-centered approach to our work,” says Didway.

SD has designed hundreds of multi-family housing developments, more than 25 K-12 campuses, and 50+ private residences just to name a few. We are experienced in public parks, sports fields & courts, playgrounds & nature-inspired play, outdoor learning, stormwater management, green roofs, public plazas & amenity decks, streetscapes, habitat restoration & natural area enhancements, landscape improvements for public works projects, and more.

01 Description & Responsibilities

We are seeking a Marketing Coordinator & Graphic Designer with a strong eye for design and a strategic mindset for business development and marketing. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who seeks ways to enhance workflow efficiency and elevate the visual quality of our deliverables. You will play a key role in conceptualizing, collaborating, and executing a variety of marketing initiatives, including proposals, client presentations, social media content, website updates, press releases, photography coordination, and branded materials. This position requires the ability to manage multiple deadlines, work under pressure, and collaborate effectively with staff at all levels, as well as with clients and consultants.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop, write, and design proposals (RFPs/RFQs) and client presentations
Develop visually compelling layouts for proposals, presentations, and digital/print collateral
Conduct market research and maintain marketing databases (proposals, business development, marketing assets, project leads)
Create high-level graphics that effectively communicate design concepts and enhance marketing materials
Collaborate with team members to conceptualize and execute engaging visual content for social media, website, and client outreach
Support business development efforts in coordination with firm leadership
Update and tailor resumes, project descriptions, and marketing collateral to align with client and pursuit-specific requirements
Assist in firm-wide activities, including meetings, events, and outreach initiatives
Manage website content and social media platforms, including scheduling and design

Maintain brand guidelines and ensure consistency across all materials
Represent the firm at industry events and networking opportunities
Support business development efforts in coordination with firm leadership

02 Required Skills

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Strong knowledge of social media platforms and content creation
Confident communicator who is not afraid to ask questions, push for information, and seek clarity to ensure high-quality deliverables
Business development and marketing strategy experience
Strong organizational and time management abilities
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

03 Education & Experience

Professional experience in a relevant field is preferred; we prioritize demonstrated expertise and collaborative fit
Degree in a related field from an accredited program
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom)
