The Mental Health Specialist II - Brief Crisis Therapist has a vital role in providing initial access to behavioral health services and brief crisis interventions to our community.

Located on the southern Oregon coast, Coos County offers a temperate environment and is one of the most scenic areas on the Oregon Coast, with miles of beaches, tide pools, and ocean cliffs to explore as well as miles of forested and beach trails to hike, horseback ride, mountain bike or motor bike on. Coos County also offers a wide range of outdoor recreational activities including: Fishing, crabbing, clamming, hiking, ATVing, camping, all types of water sports (kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding), storm and whale watching, world class golfing, weekly Farmers Markets, multiple festivals such as the South Coast Music, Cranberry and Blackberry Festivals, and the Prefontaine Run.
Here’s what you would be doing:
- Conducting mental health assessments, crisis intervention and client stabilization in clinic.
- Front line response for crisis hotline and clinic walk-ins.
- Use of a solution focused model of care to provide support, counseling, and education to individuals to aid them in achieving recovery goals.
- Operate from a strength-based, client centered approach to connect with clients in need.
- Support team-based approach to crisis management, using knowledge of multidisciplinary approaches.
- Utilize resources to provide referrals, resources, and benefits to assist clients and coordinate with agencies and law enforcement as necessary.
- Represent CHW in the community to promote the interest and education of our behavioral health programs.
- Appropriately document clinical care and treatment considerations.
Skills and experience we are seeking for this position include:
- Qualified Mental Health Professional or eligible Masters degree in psychology, social work, counseling or other related behavioral health field; or Bachelors’ in nursing or occupational therapy with license and experience.
- Prefer 2 or more years post graduate experience providing clinical behavioral health services.
- Skilled in providing treatment to individuals with psychological, behavioral, and social disorders. Ability to develop a cooperative relationship with families, physicians and other parties involved in treatment.
- Ability to assist law enforcement and other agencies in the community with response services.
- Ability to learn/utilize computer medical record systems and general office equipment.
