Senior Utility Worker
Public Works Department

Are you looking for steady, year-round public works career on the Oregon Coast? The City of Manzanita is hiring a Senior Utility Worker for a journey-level role offering independence, competitive pay, strong benefits, and long-term stability.

Salary

$4,817 – $5,857 per month
Includes annual COLA adjustments and a competitive benefits package

About the Position

Under general supervision, the Senior Utility Worker performs a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled work involving the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of City streets, water distribution systems, stormwater systems, parks, and other City-owned facilities.

This position carries higher expectations for technical skill, independence, reliability, and accountability than Utility Worker positions. Senior Utility Workers are expected to identify issues, determine appropriate corrective actions, and complete assignments with minimal supervision. This role also serves as a lead worker on daily assignments and assists with training and mentoring entry-level staff.

Key Responsibilities

Independently construct, maintain, and repair water distribution and stormwater systems
Perform skilled street maintenance, including asphalt patching, concrete finishing, and sidewalk and curb repair
Operate, inspect, and maintain pump stations and related mechanical and electrical equipment
Safely and efficiently operate a variety of public works vehicles and equipment
Maintain parks, landscaped areas, and City properties
Install and maintain traffic control devices, signage, and pavement markings
Respond to service requests, citizen concerns, and emergencies in a professional manner
Participate in on-call, after-hours, weekend, and emergency response rotations
Assist with training and mentoring Utility Worker staff
Maintain accurate records and ensure work sites comply with safety requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED
Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in public works, utilities, construction, or a related field

Licenses & Certifications

Valid Oregon driver’s license
Possession of, or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe:
Oregon Water Distribution Class I Certification
Oregon Water Treatment Class I Certification

Desirable Qualifications

Cross Connection Control Certification
Additional water or stormwater certifications

Working Conditions

Primarily outdoor work in all weather conditions
Exposure to traffic, heavy equipment, noise, chemicals, and uneven terrain
Ability to perform strenuous physical labor and respond to emergency call-outs
