Full Job Description

Experienced CNC Setup Machinist / Precision Grinder

LTL Company | Rockford, IL | 1st Shift

Family-run job shop in Rockford, making chips since 1917. We're a high-mix, low-volume to mid volume shop, so the work changes constantly and no two weeks look the same.

We are looking for an experienced CNC setup machinist who can set up and run CNC mills or lathes from start to finish. We're also interested in experienced precision grinders with hands-on ID, OD, or surface grinding experience.

We have the flexibility to build the job around the right person. If you're strong in one area, we can use that. If you're a well-rounded machinist who likes working across different machines and solving different problems, there's room for that too.

What We're Looking For

You should be able to:

Read and work from blueprints, including GD&T
Perform your own setups with minimal supervision
Inspect your own work using micrometers, bore gages, indicators, and other inspection tools
Make adjustments and solve problems when a job isn't running correctly
Speak up when something doesn't look right
Take pride in producing good parts

CNC Machining

Setup experience is more important to us than experience with a specific machine brand. Experience with any of the following is valuable:

CNC mill or lathe setup
Editing programs at the machine
G-code and M-code
Tooling and workholding
Adjusting speeds and feeds
Improving setups, cycle times, or processes
Okuma or Haas experience

Precision Grinding

We're also interested in experienced precision grinders with hands-on experience in:

ID grinding
OD grinding
Surface grinding
Tight-tolerance inspection

You do not need experience in both CNC machining and precision grinding. We're looking for experienced people who are strong at what they do.

Pay

Up to $32 per hour based on actual experience and capability.

The higher end of the range is for experienced machinists or precision grinders who can independently set up, troubleshoot, and produce tight-tolerance work.
