Full Job Description

Initiatives in STEM (iSTEM):

The Center for Initiatives in iSTEM (iSTEM) was created with a core mission to promote and enhance College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) and College of Sciences (COS) collaborative efforts on STEM education and educational research by developing partnerships with other colleges, centers, and institutes on campus, as well as other stakeholders with a similar interest in STEM initiatives. To position UCF in Florida and nationally as a hub for STEM education, iSTEM has three areas of emphasis to improve the pipeline and produce a better STEM workforce: Undergraduate Student Success, K-12 outreach and Faculty Collaboration.

The Opportunity:

The Academic Support Coordinator II will be responsible to the iSTEM Executive Director and Director of Math Launch. The individual selected will coordinate and manage a variety of activities in support of the Center's educational and research efforts specifically related to Math Launch and other STEM undergraduate student programs. The coordinator will handle the daily administrative duties of Math Launch while maintaining a student facing role with specialized advising and progression tracking within the program.

Classification Title: Academic Support Coordinator II

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the specialized advising and progression tracking of Math Launch program undergraduate students in the STEM disciplines housed with the Colleges of Engineering and Computer Science, Medicine, Optics and Photonics, and Sciences. Assistance for participants includes but is not limited to department course scheduling, student registration, orientation and retention management programming, identifying and helping to resolve barriers that impede academic success, monitoring student progress and performance, analyzing problem areas, determining solutions, conducting intervention activities for students when needed and responsibility for maintaining the student tracking systems and other university advisement record keeping systems (PS, MKS, Peg Path, degree audit, dashboards).
Assists with the coordination of the undergraduate serving program Math Launch. These responsibilities include but are not limited to the troubleshooting of program administrative issues for students, faculty and staff, teaching and learning assistant oversight, creation of the semester schedule, coordination with the MALL and associated tasks. Provides initiatives in the planning and execution of on-campus educational activities involving constituents within and outside the campus community.
Assists with recruitment, selection, training and scheduling assignments of program graduate teaching assistants and learning assistants. Includes responsibility for the MALL student tutor tracking system and other university advisement record keeping systems (PS, EAB, myKnights audit, Pegasus Path).
Assists with maintenance of the technical support services necessary to administer department programs. This includes working with the appropriate college staff on web content management of the program sites, troubleshooting and accuracy of online databases used for tracking, Canvas, ALEKS and special programs courses.
Under the direction of the Director, assists in the implementation of the program's goals and strategies as well as the collection and reporting of the appropriate assessment measures. Performs collection and data mining of information on students, university community or any external area.
Assists in the coordination, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of new iSTEM undergraduate student serving programs. Assist in other duties as assigned by the Director, including but not limited to completing initial and ongoing training, participating in professional development programs and demonstrating knowledge, skills, and abilities to function autonomously in this role and providing support in identifying and writing proposals for new STEM undergraduate funding opportunities.
In conjunction with the director, is responsible for liaison and communication activities with the University Community, Community/State Colleges, students, parents, faculty and staff in the recommendation and communication of policies and procedures while maintaining FERPA and University rules and regulations of student privacy.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in academic advising or coaching in a higher education environment.
Knowledge of University rules/regulations, and legal issues that relate to the confidentiality of student records.
Ability to interpret and explain policies to students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, supervisors, and interdepartmental personnel.
Ability to organize and prioritize one’s own work schedule.
