Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable High School English Teacher to join our dynamic faculty. The successful candidate will deliver instruction aligned to the Florida B.E.S.T. Standards for English Language Arts while fostering a love of literature, critical thinking, and effective communication. At CFP, our teachers exemplify excellence through a commitment to achievement, classroom structure, and strong relationships.

The Teaching Assignment

Courses: Standard English 9, 10, 11, and 12; one section of Creative Writing; one section of 8th Grade ELA
Schedule: Six instructional periods and one planning period, with an average class size of 10—a full teaching schedule, carried with a fraction of the student load most English teachers manage
Curriculum: All courses, including Creative Writing, are taught in alignment with the Florida B.E.S.T. ELA Standards and CFP's established scope and sequence

Key ResponsibilitiesAchievement Drive

Goal Setting: Set and achieve measurable academic goals for students across the B.E.S.T. ELA benchmarks—reading, writing, communication, and vocabulary.
Reflective Practice: Regularly reflect on teaching practices to enhance effectiveness and student outcomes.
Innovation: Utilize diverse instructional strategies to engage students in reading, writing, and analysis within the standards framework, while staying current with professional development.
Community Engagement: Support extracurriculars such as literary clubs, school publications, or academic competitions, as well as school-sponsored events.

Classroom Structure & Planning

Curriculum Design: Develop lesson plans and unit assessments with clear learning objectives explicitly aligned to the Florida B.E.S.T. ELA Standards and CFP's scope and sequence.
Assessment & Data: Use formative and summative assessment to monitor benchmark mastery, document progress, and adjust instruction accordingly.
Environment: Foster a safe, supportive classroom environment that encourages discussion, analysis, and collaboration.
Management: Maintain classroom organization to promote a positive learning experience and complete necessary administrative tasks efficiently and on time.

Student & Parent Relationships

Partnership: Build trusting, collaborative relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Communication: Communicate openly with parents to foster partnerships and support student development.
Personalization: Tailor instruction to individual needs, identifying strengths and areas for growth.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, English Education, or a related field (Master's preferred).
Experience: Prior experience teaching English at the high school level (Grades 9–12) is preferred; experience with middle school ELA and/or creative writing instruction is a plus.
Standards: Working knowledge of the Florida B.E.S.T. ELA Standards, or demonstrated ability to plan and teach within a defined standards framework.
Skills: Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills; ability to inspire students through literature and writing; comfort managing multiple course preparations.
