Estimated Time Commitment:
- Initial onboarding/build phase: Approximately 5–7 hours per week
- Ongoing commitment: Approximately 3–5 hours per week, with flexibility based on Board meetings, committee work, and organizational priorities.

As we continue building our organizational foundation, we are seeking a Board Treasurer to join our Board of Directors. This volunteer governance position is ideal for an experienced financial professional who is passionate about nonprofit stewardship, fiscal responsibility, and helping build a financially sustainable organization.
The Board Treasurer serves as one of the Board’s key governance leaders, providing strategic financial oversight and helping ensure the organization’s long-term financial health. Working closely with the Board Chair, Vice Chair, Executive Director, fellow Board members, and Leadership Team, this role helps establish the financial framework that enables Rise Together to fulfill its mission with integrity, accountability, and transparency.
Position Overview
The Board Treasurer provides governance oversight of Rise Together’s financial operations and serves as the Board’s primary financial advisor. This role supports sound financial management by helping oversee budgets, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, and long-term financial planning.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who values collaboration, ethical leadership, and responsible stewardship while helping guide the organization through its growth and development.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Governance & Oversight
- Serve as the Board’s principal financial advisor.
- Review and present financial reports to the Board of Directors.
- Monitor the organization’s financial health and long-term sustainability.
- Help establish and maintain sound financial policies, internal controls, and governance practices.
- Provide financial oversight that supports responsible organizational growth.
Budgeting & Strategic Planning
- Partner with leadership to develop and monitor the annual operating budget.
- Support long-term financial planning, forecasting, and resource allocation.
- Review organizational expenditures and financial performance.
- Provide financial insight that supports informed Board decision-making.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Help ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations and reporting requirements.
- Support oversight of tax filings, audits, and financial reporting.
- Identify financial risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Promote accountability, transparency, and ethical financial stewardship.
Organizational Sustainability
- Provide financial guidance related to fundraising initiatives, grants, sponsorships, and donor stewardship.
- Help evaluate financial opportunities that align with Rise Together’s mission and strategic priorities.
- Support long-term financial sustainability through sound governance and planning.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Serve as an active member of the Board of Directors.
- Partner closely with the Board Chair and Executive Director to support effective governance and organizational planning.
- Participate in Board meetings, governance discussions, and strategic planning.
- Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, collaboration, and responsible financial stewardship.
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone with experience in one or more of the following:
- Accounting, finance, banking, or financial management
- Budget development and financial reporting
- Financial analysis and strategic planning
- Internal controls, compliance, or risk management
- Nonprofit finance or governance (preferred)
- Grant budgeting or grant compliance (preferred)
- QuickBooks or similar accounting software (preferred)
Preferred Credentials
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
- Other relevant certifications or advanced degrees in accounting, finance, or business (such as CMA or MBA) are a plus.
Experience serving on a nonprofit board is beneficial but not required.
