Full Job Description

Job Overview

As a bankruptcy legal assistant, you will provide legal and clerical support to attorneys and paralegals specializing in bankruptcy law. You will assist paralegals with case management tasks, draft legal documents, perform due diligence, communicate with clients and court personnel, and organize case files. Your attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and understanding of legal procedures will be essential in ensuring the smooth operation of bankruptcy proceedings.

Responsibilities

Paralegal Support: Assist paralegals with case management tasks.
Document Preparation: Draft and prepare legal documents, including bankruptcy petitions, schedules, motions, and pleadings.
Client Communication: Communicate with clients to gather necessary information, provide updates on case status, and answer inquiries.
Court Filings: Prepare and file documents with bankruptcy courts in accordance with deadlines and procedural requirements.
Calendar Management: Maintain attorney calendars, schedule meetings, hearings, and deadlines related to bankruptcy cases.
Data Entry and Recordkeeping: Enter case information into databases, update case files, and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
Research & Due Diligence: Conduct legal research on bankruptcy laws, procedures, and case precedents as needed, and perform due diligence for bankruptcy clients.
Correspondence: Prepare and respond to correspondence with clients, creditors, and other parties involved in bankruptcy proceedings.
Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information related to clients and legal matters.

Education:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience in legal studies or a related field preferred.

Experience:

Previous experience working in a legal environment, particularly in bankruptcy law, is highly desirable.

Knowledge:

Familiarity with bankruptcy laws, procedures, and terminology is preferred.

Skills:

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in legal research and document drafting.
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities. Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal software applications; Best Case Software knowledge is a plus.

Interpersonal Skills

Ability to work effectively in a team environment, maintain professionalism, and interact with clients and colleagues courteously and respectfully.

Working Conditions

This position typically operates in a professional office environment.
Regular business hours, although some overtime may be required to meet deadlines or accommodate clients.
Occasional travel may be necessary for court appearances or client meetings.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $62,000.00 per year
