Description:

JOB SUMMARY: The Hotline Crisis Advocate provides advocacy, support, crisis intervention, safety planning and lethality assessments to survivors of domestic violence who call the Harbor House hotline.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Answers hotline during assigned shifts to assess the safety needs of the caller and provide immediate safety planning as necessary:
Provide crisis intervention, information and referral.
Problem-solves with survivors of domestic violence with appropriate feedback.
Assist in the development of current and applicable hotline resources and information.
Records and compiles statistical data in agency database on clients and services that will be submitted to the Residential Services Manager.
Complete follow-up calls to shelter residents who are exited to assist with any additional resources.
Work closely with Harbor House INVEST Advocates, EVE Advocates, Outreach Advocates and Legal Advocates to ensure coordination of services.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MARGINAL DUTIES

Employee(s) will be required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related duties requested by any person authorized to give instructions or assignments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Extensive knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence
Possess a history of successful advocacy on behalf of survivors of domestic violence
Ability to provide effective and immediate crisis intervention for clients
Possess a comprehensive understanding of the services and programs of the Florida domestic violence centers
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with various community agencies, coalitions, and agency staff.
Excellent communication and advocacy skills.
Ability to provide leadership in a work and community setting.
Ability to work with a moderate noise level.
Ability to effectively prioritize and work independently with little or no supervision.
Ability to manage in a manner conductive to high productivity.
Ability to work in an environment with many interruptions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequently standing, sitting, and walking.
Some stooping, lifting and bending.
Talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions.

Education: Minimum of an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field is required.
Experience: Minimum of three years relevant experience, preferably in a domestic violence program.
Discretion: Professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.
Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to learn organization-specific software, including databases and content management systems. Strong professional writing and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
Training Requirements: Completion of CORE Competency training within 90 days of hire. Additional mandatory training is required on an annual basis per Agency Policies & Procedures.
