Primary Responsibilities
- Work safely at all times while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
- Load and unload materials for heat treat furnaces, laser engraving equipment, surface grinder, and saws.
- Wrap and unwrap tool steel for heat treating.
- Program and operate heat treat furnaces using established process recipes and monitor furnace temperatures throughout the cycle.
- Cut steel stock to length using horizontal band saws.
- Operate laser engraving equipment to mark manufactured parts, including running existing programs and creating new engraving programs as needed.
- Set up and operate a surface grinder, making adjustments to achieve required dimensions and finishes.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, work orders, and specifications.
- Verify drawings and job documentation match production requirements.
- Perform in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gages, hardness testers, and other measuring equipment.
- Complete quality inspections and required production documentation.
- Monitor product quality and communicate any manufacturing concerns to the Shop Manager.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and assist with preventative maintenance.
- Submit maintenance requests and notify supervisors of equipment issues or unsafe conditions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two or more years of manufacturing or machine shop experience preferred.
- Experience with heat treating, saw operation, laser engraving, or surface grinding is a plus; training is available for the right candidate.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to accurately use measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, and hardness testers.
- Basic math skills and the ability to perform shop calculations.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
- Team-oriented with good communication skills.
- Willingness to work overtime when needed.
- Valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements
- Work in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise and seasonal temperature changes.
- Stand and walk for most of the workday.
- Frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 65 pounds.
