Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Senior Tax Strategist to join our innovative financial team. In this pivotal role, you will lead complex tax planning initiatives, develop strategic solutions for tax optimization, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. Your expertise will drive value across our organization by integrating advanced tax strategies with broader financial objectives. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence high-level decision-making and contribute to the long-term financial health of the company.

As a Senior Tax Strategist – Small Business and Tax you will apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. You will prepare, submit and manage tax statements and returns for businesses and clients. The Senior Tax Strategist – Small Business and Tax will also provide advice on financial and tax matters and should have an in-depth knowledge of the regulations, laws and acts that govern the process. You will serve as business advisor to our clients aiming at maximizing engagement and achieving qualitative outcomes.

Day to day you’ll...

Facilitate and manage the preparation and review of Entity & personal federal tax returns (1040,1120,1120S,1065,1041, etc...).
Ensure accurate, timely filing of consolidated federal, state and local income tax returns and other business-related filings such as sales tax, quarterly payroll tax, etc...
Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures
Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes
Manage members of the tax team as they prepare components of the company's US federal income tax return and other tax documents
Plan for and develop an overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with tax team
Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process
Manage and facilitate IRS income tax audits: preparing responses, creating schedules, etc.
Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation
Review quarterly/yearly tax projections
Manage and mentor members of tax team to greater levels of effectiveness and engagement
Develop and implement comprehensive tax strategies, including estate planning, corporate accounting, and tax accounting practices, to optimize financial outcomes.
Lead complex analysis of financial reports, interpret GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and ensure accurate balance sheet reconciliation and regulatory reporting.
Prepare detailed financial report writing and interpretation, providing insights into financial concepts such as debits & credits, double entry bookkeeping, and general ledger accounting.
Manage account reconciliation processes including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations using accounting software like QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
Extensive experience in public accounting or corporate tax roles with a focus on tax experience across various sectors including non-profit accounting and financial services.
Strong knowledge of estate planning, wills, trusts & estate law, and regulatory reporting standards.
Proficiency in financial software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar tools; experience with financial statement preparation and analysis is essential.
Deep understanding of GAAP principles, SOX compliance requirements, securities law, and technical accounting standards.
Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data critically, perform account analysis and reconciliation accurately, and interpret complex financial statements.
Excellent communication skills for clear financial report writing and presentation of findings to senior leadership.
