We are looking for a friendly, dependable, and hardworking Sales Associate to join our team at Ouray Hardware & Mercantile. This is a hands-on position that involves helping customers, operating the cash register, stocking merchandise, and assisting with the day-to-day operation of the store.
Hardware store experience is helpful, but not required. We are happy to provide on-the-job training for someone who is dependable, willing to learn, and enjoys helping people.
Responsibilities
- Provide friendly and helpful customer service throughout the store
- Help customers locate products and find solutions to their projects and needs
- Operate the cash register and accurately handle cash and other payments
- Perform opening and closing cash register procedures
- Complete morning opening duties, including starting store computers and software, preparing the register, sweeping, and getting the store ready for customers
- Stock shelves and keep merchandise organized and presentable
- Receive, unload, and put away merchandise from truck deliveries
- Assist with inventory, pricing, and product organization
- Keep the sales floor, checkout area, and other work areas clean and organized
- Learn about the products we carry so you can better assist customers
- Help with other day-to-day tasks as needed in a small hardware store environment
What We're Looking For
The right person for this position will be:
- Friendly and comfortable working with customers
- Dependable and punctual
- Willing to learn about hardware, tools, home improvement, and the products we sell
- Comfortable using computers and learning our point-of-sale system
- Able to handle cash accurately and responsibly
- Willing to pitch in wherever needed
- Able to work independently after training
- Able to lift and move merchandise and assist with unloading deliveries
- Retail, hardware, construction, maintenance, or customer service experience is a plus, but not required
Schedule
This position can range from part-time up to full-time, depending on the employee's availability and the needs of the store.
We offer flexible scheduling and are open to working with the right candidate to find a schedule that works well for both sides.
Some morning shifts will involve responsibility for opening the store and preparing it for the business day.
Pay & Training
$17–$20 per hour, depending on experience.
We provide on-the-job training, including our point-of-sale system, register procedures, store operations, and product knowledge.
You don't need to know everything about hardware on your first day. We're looking for someone who is willing to learn, takes pride in doing a g*** job, and enjoys helping customers.
