The Youth Resiliency Center Advocate provides a continuum of services for runaway, homeless, and street youth up to age 21 at the Youth Resiliency Center. Provides advocacy, crisis intervention, support and services to teens that are homeless, runaways, or experiencing abuse or neglect. Assists in the drop-in program activities of the Youth Resiliency Center. Follows Standard Operating Procedures for site in day to day responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides daily supervision and programming in the drop-in center.
- Engages youth and creates a positive environment for youth accessing the YRC utilizing Trauma Informed Care, Positive Youth Development, Strengths Based Care and Harm Reduction philosophies.
- Helps the YRC Assistant Program Manager create and maintain monthly calendars reporting what activities are facilitated each day.
- Provides up to four groups per week for Exploration hour in the YRC.
- Assists drop in youth with meeting needs and case management.
- Teach communication, teamwork, coping skills, healthy competition, and positive peer interaction.
- Creates a structured and consistent environment in the Youth Resiliency Center.
- Assists with training of volunteers and utilizing volunteers’ time to meet clients’ needs.
- Maintains a clean environment as necessary, i.e. cleaning facility areas, office areas, laundering linens and completing other household tasks as needed and/or assigned.
- Participates in required staff development training.
- Performs school related and agency groups/presentations as assigned.
- Documents and follows all protocol per the SOP, completing all logs and paperwork required for the program. Must be organized and have excellent follow-through with paperwork and requirements.
- Initiates needed tasks for completion.
- Accepts other cooperative duties as needed.
- Maintains client confidentiality and professionalism.
- Maintains accurate documentation and client records.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Communicates consistently and regularly with YRC Assistant Program Manager, Street Outreach Program Manager, other agency staff and community representatives.
- Asks questions of the YRC Assistant Program Manager and Street Outreach Manager about uncertainty in job role or function.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in social services field preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
The employee in this position must have CPR/First Aid Certification, Safe Crisis Management certification, and have a valid Class E Drivers license.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The employee must be able to use general office equipment, type and perform Data Entry, and have the ability to use computer software, including Windows, Word for Windows, and Access.

Must be willing to walk, work in all weather conditions, and be flexible with hours, working a varied schedule, as this position requires out doors contact with youth, mostly in late afternoons and evening hours.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 21 years of age, pass a background check and Family Care Safety Registry screening, fingerprint screen, drug screen, physical and have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. Position requires CPR, Med Tech Certification and Chauffeur’s License within 30 days from the date of hire.
