Purchasing & Inventory Coordinator

Canaan Stone Works – Shawnee, Ks
Full-Time | $54,000–$62,000 DOE + Benefits

Position Summary

Canaan Stone Works is looking for an organized, dependable and detail-oriented Purchasing & Inventory Coordinator to assist with and ultimately take ownership of our day-to-day purchasing and inventory activities.

This position is responsible for purchasing stone slabs and materials used in our countertop fabrication operation, as well as maintaining appropriate inventory levels of shop, installation and office supplies.

Previous purchasing experience is helpful but not required. Candidates with experience in accounting, accounts payable, inventory, construction administration, operations or other detail-oriented business roles are encouraged to apply. We are willing to train the right person.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop a career in purchasing, inventory management and operations.

Primary Responsibilities

Purchasing

· Order quartz, granite, quartzite and other slab materials based on established inventory requirements.

· Place orders for shop, fabrication, installation and office supplies.

· Prepare and maintain purchase orders in our ERP system.

· Confirm vendor pricing, quantities and delivery dates.

· Follow up with vendors on backorders, shortages and delivery issues.

· Assist with obtaining quotes and comparing vendor pricing.

· Coordinate material returns and vendor credits.

· Develop strong working relationships with suppliers.

Inventory

· Help maintain accurate slab and supply inventory.

· Monitor established minimum and maximum inventory levels and identify items approaching reorder levels.

· Assist with physical inventory counts and periodic cycle counts.

· Investigate inventory discrepancies.

· Monitor slow-moving and excess inventory.

· Maintain accurate receiving and inventory records within our ERP system.

Shop & Installation Supplies

· Fabrication tooling, blades and consumables.

· Adhesives, silicone, epoxy and installation materials.

· Safety supplies and PPE.

· Stone-care and sealing products.

· Sink and installation accessories.

· Packaging, transportation, shop and office supplies.

Qualifications & Transferable Experience

We are looking for someone with a strong combination of organization, numerical aptitude, attention to detail, common sense and willingness to learn. Direct purchasing experience is helpful, but it is not required.

Candidates with transferable experience in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply:

· Accounting, bookkeeping or accounts payable.

· Inventory control or warehouse administration.

· Office or operations administration.

· Purchasing, procurement or vendor management.

· Manufacturing or production support.

· Business, accounting or supply-chain education.

Additional qualifications include:

· Comfortable working with numbers, costs, quantities and spreadsheets.

· Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.

· Good computer skills and ability to learn ERP and inventory-management software.

· Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities.

· Strong follow-through and ability to make sure tasks are completed.

· Comfortable communicating with vendors and internal team members.

· Ability to compare pricing, verify invoices and purchase orders, and understand basic cost information.

· Dependable and able to work independently after training.

· Associate's or bachelor's degree in business, accounting, supply chain, operations or a related field is helpful but not required.

· Experience in countertops, stone, cabinets, flooring, building materials, construction or manufacturing is a plus, but not required.

What We're Looking For

We are less concerned about finding someone who already knows the countertop industry than finding the right person who can learn it. Someone with strong accounting, administrative, inventory or business skills who is interested in learning purchasing and inventory management can be very successful in this position.

The successful candidate will be organized, curious and comfortable working with both people and numbers. They should enjoy solving problems, following details and making sure things don't fall through the cracks.

Over time, we expect this person to develop a strong understanding of our inventory, suppliers and purchasing requirements and take increasing ownership of the purchasing function.
