Full Job Description

The Assistant Prepared Foods Manager leads the service counter staff working between the Deli and Meat & Seafood departments. This person is in charge of the people and the operations involved in the stocking and merchandising of Meat & Seafood and Prepared Foods inventory. Above all, this person is committed to supporting their team to provide customer service at the highest level from the deli to the meat and seafood counter.

The ideal candidate has experience in both customer service and in directing a team. Any candidate must be organized, believe in the value of systems and routines to execute work, take ownership over the operations and staff, work closely under the direction of the Prepared Food Manager, and be willing to nurture their team to grow.

This position reports to the Prepared Foods Manager. The position is a full-time position at 36-40 hours per week. Shift work on the weekends is required. The Assistant Prepared Foods Manager is a member of the Prepared Foods Leadership Team, is trained as a Prepared Foods PIC, and is scheduled to fill in for the Prepared Foods Manager on their days off. This position is primarily positioned at the service counter to execute and oversee operations.

Service Counter Managerial Duties

Trains, models, and supports service counter staff to follow Chicory Market customer service policy.
Uses checklists to ensure opening, closing, stocking, and cleaning tasks are happening efficiently and consistently.
Conducts daily walk-through of service counter and FOH merchandisers to check for cleanliness, organization, freshness, and stocking needs.
Creates and adjusts planograms based on available inventory.
Supports service counter staff by continually providing feedback on all aspects of their work.
Works shifts at the service counter across the week.
Handles raw meat and seafood.
Ensures service counter staff follows best merchandising practices: stocking trays with abundance, filling space in service cases, fully stocked grab n go’s using planograms, clean and updated customer-facing labels, and clean countertops.
Manages flow of prepared foods from kitchen into deli to ensure food is properly labeled, stocked, rotated and stored.
Ensures food safety protocols are followed at all times by all members of staff.
Manages cleaning, logistics and maintenance SOPs and determines when a new SOP is needed or needs to be updated. Communicates and trains staff on SOPs.
As Hiring Manager for Service Counter, works with HR to initiate hiring, conduct interviews, and train.
As Scheduling Manager for Service Counter, works with HR to ensure staff is scheduled across the month. Continually monitors time off requests, call outs, and no shows and works with Prepared Foods Manager to adjust.
Conducts Performance Concern Reports for Service Counter teams. Works with HR Manager to ensure Performance Concern Policy is fulfilled and to determine next steps.

Other Leadership Duties

Works closely with Butchers to maintain meat and seafood inventory and to support counter staff to handle inventory.
Fills in for Prepared Foods Manager on their days off by conducting walk through of kitchen, monitoring production, organizing ingredients, and otherwise supporting the operations of the kitchen.
Trained as Prepared Foods PIC to fill in shifts when needed.
Supports Prepared Foods Manager as needed to organize catering orders, complete inventory or ordering of kitchen ingredients, support staff, and to maintain equipment and supplies.
Assists Prepared Foods Manager and Butchers in communications, staff support, and maintaining SOPs across both the Prepared Foods Department and Meat and Seafood Department.

Experience directing or leading a team. Ability to clearly and consistently teach others is required, along with a willingness to follow up when standards are not met.
Maintains a positive, professional, curious, and cordial demeanor while working. Treat customers and coworkers with respect, kindness and patience.
Must collaborate with team members with integrity.
Previous experience in Customer Service is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must be willing and able to stand for the duration of the shift.
Must be able to crouch for periods of time, move in small spaces, and comfortably use a ladder.
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
Must be able to work in hot and cold environments.

Schedule Requirements

36-40 hours a week required
Proposed schedule is Sunday-Thursday 10:30-6:30, subject to change as peak hours change
Some responsibilities off-hours in the event of a scheduling emergency
Some weekend and holiday work required

Clothing Requirements

Clothing should cover the torso, groin, and buttocks in entirety
Shirts must have sleeves (no tank tops)
Non-slip, closed-toe shoes are required
A hat, hairnet, or other head covering is required (Chicory hat provided)
In addition to a head covering, hair longer than 2 inches must be tied back or otherwise contained
Staff with facial hair may be asked to wear a beard net
Must wear apron (Chicory apron provided)

Benefits

Single Department Assistant Manager position Eligible for Paid Time Off in accordance with policy outlined in Staff Handbook (10 days accrual per year, max accrual of 20 days)
Salary Range: $48,000-$57,000 exempt
After 12 months, eligible for raise following Annual Review
Grocery discount for personal use, partners & dependents: 25%
Eligible for Blue Cross Blue Shield health plan at a 20% share, which Chicory covering the remaining 80%
