Position Summary
The Director of Westminster Presbyterian Church Preschool (WPCP) supports the vision of inviting all people to follow Jesus on a journey of faith, friendship, and service by leading the preschool’s efforts in creating an age-appropriate, nurturing environment where children can grow and thrive. The Director provides oversight for the daily operations of the preschool, ensuring the program meets or exceeds all licensing and educational standards while fostering the growth and development of each child—spiritually, emotionally, socially, intellectually, and physically.
Working closely with preschool staff, church leadership, and families, the Director cultivates a caring and collaborative culture that reflects the church’s ministry and commitment to young children. The Director also serves as the primary liaison between the preschool and church community, guiding staff and families in fulfilling WPCP’s mission as a faith-based early childhood program.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Collaborate with church leadership to develop and maintain a system of strategic planning, goal setting, and accountability
- Foster a culture that supports the preschool's mission and Christian values.
Staff Supervision & Development
- Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate preschool faculty and support staff.
- Facilitate staff meetings, training opportunities, professional development, and morale.
Family & Community Engagement
- Build positive relationships with preschool families.
- Support parent events including, fundraisers, open houses, and community outreach efforts.
- Serve as liaison between the preschool, church, and community.
- Network with other preschools, preschool directors, professional organizations, and regulatory agencies regarding policies, practices, and guidelines
Compliance, Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all California Department of Social Services Title 22 regulations.
- Oversee health, safety, emergency preparedness, and licensing requirements.
- Work directly with regulatory agencies and licensing inspectors.
Financial Management
- Oversee daily operations of financial transactions including receipts, disbursements, and payroll
- Oversee the security and integrity of the database software programs used to administer student, parent and financial data
- Develop annual budget recommendations.
- Provide recommendations regarding tuition, fees, staffing levels, and compensation.
- Monitor enrollment trends and recommend strategies to maintain healthy enrollment levels.
Church Partnership
- Attend weekly church staff and leadership meetings as requested.
- Serve as an ex-officio member of the Preschool Board of Directors.
- Attend the Parent Advisory Board meetings as needed.
- Encouraged to attend the WPC weekly church service on Sunday morning
Qualifications
Required
- Demonstrated commitment to the Christian faith and the mission of Westminster Presbyterian Church, including the ability to model Christian values and provide spiritual leadership within a faith-based preschool environment.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in early childhood education.
- Minimum three (3) units in Early Childhood Administration, and a commitment to complete other required classes
- Completion of all California Department of Social Services Title 22 requirements for childcare center administration.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification, and current Health and Safety training
· Must successfully complete all required criminal background clearances, fingerprinting (Live Scan), and child abuse index checks required by California law prior to employment.
· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire.
Preferred
- Previous preschool leadership or director experience.
- Experience working in a faith-based educational setting.
- Experience with budgeting, strategic planning, and staff management.
- Experience with Procare, QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, or similar preschool management software.
Physical Requirements
The Preschool Director role is primarily office-based but requires regular engagement in classroom and playground settings. The position involves frequent walking, standing, bending, and occasional lifting of items up to 35 pounds. The Director must be able to navigate the preschool campus, including outdoor areas and child-sized facilities. The Director must be able to assist with children’s personal care and respond swiftly to emergencies, including tasks that may require running or guiding children to safety.
While typical hours fall during the weekday and Sunday morning, occasional evening or weekend availability is expected for school events or church meetings. The work environment is dynamic, involving regular interaction with children, families, and staff.
