Job Summary
To issue various permits, assist with applications, answer calls, work with the public at the front counter, public meetings and perform the various tasks and duties under the discretion of the Community Development Director.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the Community Development Director.
Duties & Responsibilities
· Represents the Planning and Development Department at the front counter answering questions and directing citizens and guests to the appropriate staff member(s) for assistance.
· Performs relative data entry as necessary.
· Prepares various letters, progress and other reports on planning and development activities.
· Assists the public, builders, contractors and developers with questions related to planning and zoning at the Planning and Development Department counter.
· Assists in the processing of all applications related to planning, zoning, building, and development.
· Issues building permits, handles receipts and files necessary paperwork including updating the computer databases.
· Responsible for data entry and record keeping related to building and code enforcement activities.
· Prepares and assists with preparing various letters and correspondence, posting information, progress updates, and other reports for all members of the Planning and Development Department team members.
· Orders supplies and office essentials for the Planning and Development Department.
· Performs typical office duties such as filing, computer data entry, emailing, faxing, copying, and various other activities.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

· Attend seminars, workshops, and other training for professional development purposes.
· Attend Commission meetings as required to fulfill position responsibilities.
· Works cooperatively with various departments.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Any combination of education, training, and experience providing the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of modern office equipment, software programs, functions, and practices; standard English usage both verbal and written; basic math calculations.
Knowledge of municipal Public Works and Planning and Development policies and procedures.
Prior experience with Planning, Zoning and Building Construction, and Permitting is a plus.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to read, understand and interpret a variety of information including city ordinances.
Ability to operate a computer utilizing appropriate level of confidentiality for both written and verbal information.
Ability to read, understand and interpret a variety of information including city ordinances.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and the general public.
Ability to manage and organize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.

The ability to read legal descriptions to locate property and prepare legal notices is a plus.
Ability to read and understand subdivision plats including locations of various public infrastructure features including all types of easements is a plus.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or vocational school graduate or equivalent thereof.
Experience in related fields and/or a comparable combination of work history and education.
A minimum of 2 years of experience of general office work.
Physical Requirements
Performs bending, climbing, twisting, kneeling, and reaching both to ground level and overhead. Lifts and carries up to ten (10) lbs. and/or pushes and pulls up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Holds and grips objects and subjected to working in awkward positions and periods of prolonged walking, sitting, or standing.
Must possess manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and/or mouse.
Must be able to hear audio tapes utilized for transcription purposes or record verbal dictation depending on departmental assignment.
Working Environment
Performs work indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general office environment.
Licensing/Certification
Must possess a valid Missouri Driver’s license.
Miscellaneous Requirements
Must pass pre-employment drug testing.
Subject to the City’s drug and alcohol prevention and abuse ordinances.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.07 - $22.37 per hour
